The project was launched with the aim of reducing the energy consumption of its public lighting, renovating and modernizing its lighting installations, and adapting them to new regulations

Edison Next, an energy services company and subsidiary of the Italian group EDISON, a leader in the energy market, has been managing the public lighting of the city of Lleida since it was awarded the contract by the city council in 2014 until 2026, with a commitment to energy efficiency and optimization of lighting installations. During this time, the energy company has managed to reduce the city's public lighting energy expenditure by more than 60%. The main objectives of the project are to renovate the city's lighting infrastructure, reduce the energy consumption of its public lighting, and modernize its lighting installations, adapting them to new regulations. As a starting point, the city had 23,014 light points and 290 lighting control cabinets. However, during the process, the number of light points has increased due to the city's growth and the installation of new luminaires to improve existing areas, reaching over 25,000 light points according to the latest data from 2021. Despite this, and based on the goal of reducing energy expenditure by 35%, Edison Next has exceeded the target, achieving 68% energy savings. "This initiative is a commitment to technological renewal and a better adjustment to the city's needs, as well as a global push to achieve maximum energy efficiency. At Edison Next, we have worked to promote efficiency and maximum energy savings in Lleida's lighting systems, thus contributing to the fight against climate change," explains Íñigo Bertrand, CEO of Edison Next. To achieve this, the company has worked on 100% of the city's light points, focusing on switching to LED technology and installing electronic drivers with point-to-point regulation. In addition to preventive and corrective maintenance, verification and monitoring of the service status, incident response, control of energy consumed, and compliance with regulations for existing installations, as well as carrying out improvement works to ensure the perfect operation and performance of the outdoor lighting installations and all their components.
