Edison Next acquires Iberdrola’s cogeneration plants for slurry treatment and a portfolio of biomethane projects.
Edison Next has reached an agreement with Iberdrola to acquire its cogeneration assets for slurry treatment and a portfolio of adjacent biomethane projects.
The transaction includes five operating plants located in León, Burgos, Huesca and Murcia, totaling 52 megawatts (MW), as well as four biomethane projects under development in adjacent areas, with an aggregate production of 340 GWh/year.
With this operation, Edison Next strengthens its presence in Spain and its commitment to the energy transition, promoting the circular economy and the use of renewable gases.
This transaction, together with two additional contracts signed in recent weeks, also contributes to consolidating Edison Next’s biomethane portfolio, which already includes two projects under construction that will be commissioned in 2026; two that will reach “Ready-to-Build” (RtB) in the coming months; and more than 15 projects at different stages of development, totaling over 1 TWh/year of production.

All of this, with a comprehensive focus on energy efficiency, renewables and decarbonization services, has enabled it to save over 2,450 GWh, avoid the emission of more than 120,000 tons of CO₂ and deploy more than 2,500 projects in industry, the tertiary sector and public administration.
