Edison Next Completes First Phase of Alstom’s Solar Project at Barcelona Industrial Center
Alstom, a global leader in sustainable mobility solutions, has taken a major step in its sustainability journey with the successful completion of the first phase of a solar photovoltaic project at its Santa Perpètua industrial center in Barcelona.
Developed in partnership with Edison Next—the energy solutions specialist under the EDISON Group and French energy giant EDF—this initiative will boost both competitiveness and sustainability for Alstom, supplying 26.5% of the factory’s total energy consumption with clean power.
A Solar-Powered Industrial Hub
Once fully completed, the project will feature: ✔ 3,596 solar panels (covering rooftops, office buildings, and parking areas) ✔ Over 9,000 m² of solar infrastructure (equivalent to two football fields) ✔ 2,041 kWp installed capacity, generating 2,776 MWh of clean energy annually
Phase 1 (now finished) installed 2,419 panels, while Phase 2 (scheduled for late June) will add panels to a second covered parking zone.
Environmental & Economic Impact
The solar installation will help Alstom: ✔ Avoid 694 tons of CO₂ emissions per year (equal to the annual footprint of 162 gasoline cars) ✔ Reduce reliance on fossil fuels ✔ Support local sustainability efforts
Beyond solar, Alstom has taken additional steps to offset its carbon footprint, including: 🌱 Planting 1,000+ trees through a Ministry for Ecological Transition-certified project ⚡ Using 100% renewable electricity across all its Spanish facilities 🔋 Implementing energy efficiency measures to further cut consumption
