An efficient and sustainable alternative for the industrial sector
Industry is one of the fundamental pillars of the European economy. Currently, it accounts for more than 28% of its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and employs around 25% of workers in the European Union. However, this activity is responsible for a large portion of the emissions that pollute the environment and accelerate climate change. For years, governments and large corporations have embarked on a new path to help improve the planet, while also representing a new opportunity for more responsible and sustainable economic growth. One of the main avenues for improvement relates to so-called "Energy Efficiency," a concept that is gaining momentum and has become one of the key drivers of the global ecological transition underway. In short, it's about how to consume less and better energy. To address this virtuous transition, there are a number of aspects to consider:
  •  Energy audits. The preliminary step to an efficiency improvement plan involves conducting a prior study that thoroughly analyzes the starting situation of each company, factory, or production plant, sheds light on production processes, and determines a series of improvements to be introduced. That is, a complete Energy Efficiency audit, including in the purchase of commodities and raw materials or in certification aspects, for example.
  • Cogeneration model. From the above analysis, a new model of dual energy generation—electrical and thermal—from a single source may emerge, thereby utilizing the thermal energy produced to be more efficient. This simultaneously reduces the raw materials used, economic costs, and the emission of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.
  • Integrated Management Solution for cogeneration plants. With ongoing support for clients in the startup and operation of cogeneration, biomass, and waste facilities, EDF Fenice offers management technologies for these installations and a commitment to promoting both consumption savings and their effects on the environment.
  • Heat recovery systems. The necessary consumption of hot air and water by industrial processes requires solutions that favor the recovery and reuse of "surplus" heat in other processes. This step not only results in lower primary energy consumption but also increases savings, while simultaneously enhancing the company's competitiveness in the market.
  • Use of renewable energies: the search for renewable energy sources is key to achieving industrial energy efficiency, while also demonstrating the industry's social and environmental commitment.
