Edison Next Spain, a Key Voice in the Third Edition of the “Expansión Energy Meeting 2025”

At Edison Next, we remain committed to sustainability and the efficient use of energy through the development of projects that benefit local communities. On this occasion, we have been awarded the contract launched by the Chipiona Town Council for the installation of a solar photovoltaic LED lighting system on the Montijo Road, one of the main access routes to the Montijo and Valdeconejos area in Chipiona (Cádiz).

Montijo Road is a heavily traveled public path that has become one of the main entrances to this rural area. However, until now, it lacked an adequate lighting system, which posed a risk to both pedestrians and vehicles, especially at night. This project, which is essential for road and pedestrian safety, aims to provide this section with suitable ambient lighting to improve visibility.

The proposal presented by Edison Next not only addresses the need to illuminate the road but also adds value by being designed with sustainability and efficient resource use in mind. To achieve this, we have opted for a standalone solar photovoltaic solution, which allows for self-consumption of energy without relying on the conventional power grid. This system consists of independent lighting units equipped with LED technology and efficient batteries to store the energy generated by solar panels.

One of the main advantages of this solution is that it does not require trenching or underground infrastructure, significantly reducing the environmental impact of the installation work and the investment in civil works. The photovoltaic system’s ability to generate energy autonomously ensures that the lighting operates without harming the natural environment or producing waste.

Moreover, this type of installation is highly adaptable to the energy needs of each section and its specific conditions, adjusting lighting levels according to the time of year and optimizing energy consumption. At Edison Next, we will set the lighting levels based on the needs of Montijo Road to avoid wasting resources, and these can be adjusted according to the time of day and sunlight intensity. In this way, we ensure the system is energy-efficient.

At the same time, Edison Next is committed to using best practices to minimize the environmental impact of all the projects we implement. In this case, during the execution of the works, we will take measures to reduce noise and other disturbances in the area, ensuring that the installation process causes minimal inconvenience to residents and road users.

This project is one of many initiatives we are developing in collaboration with municipalities to promote sustainability and the use of renewable energy throughout Spain. The commitment to solar photovoltaic technology that we champion at Edison Next not only improves safety and energy efficiency but also contributes to the development of a model for decarbonized and more sustainable towns and cities. Additionally, being an autonomous system not dependent on the power grid, these initiatives contribute to reducing municipalities’ carbon footprint, aligning them with global sustainability goals.
