At Edison Next, we believe that sustainability starts with caring for what matters most: people. That is why, with the arrival of high temperatures, we have decided to activate concrete measures to protect the health and wellbeing of our teams, especially those who carry out their daily work outdoors.
These actions are part of our ESG commitment, which is reflected not only in the energy projects we drive forward, but also in the way we work and how we look after the safety of those who are part of the company.
During these recent days, marked by an intense heatwave, we have decided to reinforce our internal campaign to remind our colleagues of the importance of prevention. We have reminded them of the importance of avoiding tasks that require greater physical effort or direct sun exposure during the hottest hours of the day and of staying hydrated, while also encouraging the regular use of sunscreen and UV-filter glasses.
Furthermore, with the aim of maximizing the health protection of our workers most exposed to the heat, we have distributed smart thermal monitoring wristbands to our maintenance, construction and outdoor energy services personnel. This device, which Edison Next Spain’s People and Talent department championed and implemented two summers ago, provides a continuous reading of accumulated body temperature and triggers both an audible and visual alert if it detects a risk of heatstroke.
At all our centers, prevention managers and technicians consult the alert levels issued by AEMET on a daily basis to adapt preventive measures according to weather conditions. We have also provided our teams with instructions on how to identify heatstroke and how to act upon the first symptoms, reminding everyone that in case of any doubt they should contact their direct supervisor and the prevention technician assigned to their area.
We know that in order to achieve our goal of “zero accidents” we need constant vigilance and a culture of care shared by all. That is why our company has spent years promoting and working towards a work environment that protects the wellbeing of our employees and ensures their safety at all times, especially during times of year such as this one, where climate change and extreme temperatures heighten the danger.
For us, sustainability is not limited to reducing emissions or increasing energy efficiency — it also means caring, preventing and supporting. Our company will continue working to ensure that every step we take towards a more sustainable model is also a step towards a safer, more humane working environment committed to the wellbeing of those who make it all possible.
