The Lleida City Council has awarded the contract for the renewal and maintenance of its public lighting network to the UTE (temporary joint venture) formed by Edison Next, an energy solutions specialist and subsidiary of the EDISON group and French giant EDF, and Romero Polo, a comprehensive urban waste management company. With a total investment of €31.3 million and an execution period of twelve months, the project will comprehensively transform the urban lighting infrastructure and mark a turning point in municipal energy management. Through this new contract, which adds to the public lighting maintenance service that Edison Next was already providing, the company will launch a project whose works will begin after the official signing, scheduled for mid-June. This project is part of the local strategy to achieve a more efficient, sustainable and technologically advanced lighting network. To this end, the contract provides for the replacement of 14,545 lighting points with LED luminaires, reducing energy consumption and CO₂ emissions. In addition, individual remote management systems, 200 environmental multi-sensors and 25 solar streetlights will be installed, paving the way for a lighting infrastructure aligned with smart city standards. This transformation is also backed by the Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving (IDAE), which has granted Lleida an aid package of €8.6 million, following the successful submission of the municipal project to the subsidy call for the renewal of outdoor lighting. Furthermore, the new contract not only covers the replacement of luminaires and improvements in energy efficiency, but also the maintenance and upkeep of all existing infrastructure for more than a decade. Edison Next and Romero Polo, operating under the name UTE LleidaLlum, will be responsible for both the execution of the works linked to the IDAE grant and the complete maintenance of the network from January of next year. With this contract, Lleida reinforces its commitment to a more efficient, safe and sustainable city, advancing towards a smarter and more environmentally responsible energy model. Edison Next, for its part, consolidates its position as one of the key players in the energy transformation of Spanish cities, bringing cutting-edge technological solutions in collaboration with strategic partners such as Romero Polo. “This contract represents a great opportunity to consolidate a more efficient, digital and sustainable public lighting model that positions Lleida as a national benchmark in energy transition. Our collaboration with Romero Polo also ensures an execution that is close to and committed to the local environment,” said Edison Next Spain.
