The city of Ibiza is moving towards a more efficient, modern and environmentally respectful urban model. In the coming months, the municipality will carry out a comprehensive renovation of its public lighting network in partnership with Edison Next Spain, a company specializing in energy and environmental solutions. The project, promoted by the Ajuntament d’Eivissa and aligned with the European Union’s climate and sustainability objectives, will be financed through Next Generation EU funds within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. The intervention includes the replacement of 1,475 old lighting points with state-of-the-art LED luminaires, as well as the renovation of 23 electrical panels, which will be upgraded with improved protections and advanced control systems. With this modernization, the municipality will achieve a significant energy saving of 41.5%, reducing its annual consumption from 593,776 kWh to 347,337 kWh — equivalent to more than 246,000 kWh less per year. This improvement will also make it possible to avoid the emission of 64 tonnes of CO₂ annually, contributing to the conservation and enhancement of the environment, as well as improving the quality of life of the island’s residents. The new luminaires, supplied by leading manufacturers such as Signify (Philips), Benito and Roura, have been selected for their high efficiency, durability and ability to adapt to marine environments. With a useful life of more than 100,000 hours, these solutions guarantee longevity and minimal maintenance. Furthermore, their warm color temperature configuration (3,000K), in addition to improving the visual quality of urban lighting, also helps reduce light pollution, preserving biodiversity and the balance of Ibiza’s nocturnal ecosystem. The intervention will also bring about a notable reduction in installed power, which will decrease from 134.5 kW to 92.3 kW, optimizing the overall performance of the municipal electricity network. The installation of remote control systems will in turn provide greater flexibility and management capacity for the local authority, enabling the lighting to be programmed, regulated and monitored more efficiently. Edison Next Spain has committed to developing the project in accordance with circular economy principles and responsible waste management, ensuring, for example, that all removed materials are recycled or recovered by authorized waste managers. This reinforces the comprehensive approach of the project, which not only focuses on energy efficiency but also on an intervention that is respectful of the environment. For Edison Next, which has extensive experience in similar urban sustainability projects, this project once again reinforces its commitment to the sustainable transformation of cities and its willingness to support local administrations in the implementation of solutions that combine technological innovation, positive environmental impact and an improved quality of life for citizens. For its part, thanks to this initiative, the city of Ibiza is not only modernizing its lighting network, but lighting a new path towards sustainability — a transformation that will be visible in its streets, squares and public spaces, and that is also a statement of intent about the Ibiza of the future.
