As every June 5th, today we celebrate World Environment Day, a date that invites us to reflect on the impact of our actions on the planet and the urgency of moving towards more sustainable development models. Since its creation by the United Nations in 1972, this date has served as a reminder that protecting ecosystems and curbing climate change is a collective task, in which everyone — individuals, companies and public administrations — has a role to play.
At Edison Next Spain, this commitment is not limited to one day on the calendar: we put it into practice 365 days a year, supporting companies, municipalities and public entities in their energy transition. We do so through concrete solutions that combine technological innovation, expert knowledge and a comprehensive vision that prioritizes both the sustainability and competitiveness of our clients.
We live in a context where talking about sustainability is no longer enough — action is required. Industries, buildings and cities need to move steadily towards energy efficiency, decarbonization and responsible resource management. We have a clear purpose: to help reduce the carbon footprint, optimize energy consumption and ensure that all of this translates into savings and added value for those who trust us.
Over the past year, thanks to this vision, we have avoided the emission of 120,550 tonnes of CO₂, managed 2,450 GWh of energy and developed more than 25,000 projects across the country. Today we work alongside more than 50 large industrial clients and manage more than 2,000 buildings in key sectors such as the tertiary and public sectors. In total, our solutions have generated energy savings of 170 GWh, directly impacting the sustainability and profitability of our clients.
Our impact also extends to the urban environment. We operate more than 500,000 lighting points in more than 40 cities, achieving savings of over 50% in outdoor lighting installations and avoiding more than 13,000 tonnes of CO₂ per year. We have also led the management of Energy Saving Certificates (CAEs), monetizing more than 130 GWh through energy efficiency projects across multiple sectors.
From the installation of intelligent energy management systems (BMS) in buildings, to advanced industrial decarbonization solutions such as the electrification of thermal processes or residual heat recovery, Edison Next designs and implements customized projects that respond to the specific challenges of each client. We also support our clients in asset digitalization, energy valorization, water use optimization and thermal comfort improvement, always with a focus on efficiency, regulatory compliance and environmental commitment.
In the industrial sector, we develop comprehensive actions ranging from heat use efficiency, progressive electrification and the analysis of energy vectors such as biomethane, to the use of thermal storage systems or waste valorization. In the tertiary and public sectors, we champion solutions that increase the control, visibility and energy efficiency of buildings, improving the performance and wellbeing of their users.
And we do so through a model in which, beyond designing and installing, we also take on the initial investment when the client needs it. This allows us to accelerate the implementation of sustainable measures without compromising organizations’ liquidity, demonstrating that sustainability and competitiveness are not only compatible, but must go hand in hand.
In short, at Edison Next we do not celebrate World Environment Day with words, but with actions. We celebrate it every day, supporting companies and public administrations in building a more efficient present and a greener future. Because caring for the planet is not an option — it is a shared responsibility. And we are convinced that sustainability is not only the best path towards fair and lasting growth, but also towards a more resilient, competitive and environmentally respectful model.
