Edison Next promotes solar self-consumption and electric charging in Almería with a project worth over 400,000 euros.
Edison Next Spain, a subsidiary of the EDISON energy group and the French giant EDF, has been awarded a project promoted by the Regional Government of Andalusia to deploy energy self-consumption and sustainable mobility solutions in the province of Almería. The action, which has a budget of more than 400,000 euros, will be carried out at 19 strategic locations and is financed by the Next Generation EU European funds within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR).
The project, managed by the Andalusian Environment and Water Agency (AMAyA), aims to energetically transform infrastructures linked to public use and biodiversity conservation by installing photovoltaic solar energy plants for self-consumption and charging points for electric vehicles. Thanks to this initiative, the centers will be able to generate their own energy autonomously, significantly reducing their dependence on the traditional electricity grid, improving their efficiency, and actively contributing to the reduction of CO₂ emissions.
“This project reflects how public-private collaboration can accelerate the energy transition also in environments of high environmental value. At Edison Next, we work to integrate renewable solutions that not only reduce emissions but also improve the efficiency and energy autonomy of key infrastructures for territorial conservation,” states Manuel Barrera, South Director of Edison Next Spain.
The actions will be carried out in 19 natural spaces distributed across various municipalities in the province of Almería, such as Níjar, Abrucena, Laujar de Andarax, Sorbas, or Vélez-Blanco. These include visitor centers, information points, emblematic natural sites, biodiversity conservation centers, and recreational areas, all of which play a relevant role in the protection and dissemination of natural heritage.
From a technical standpoint, the installations will be adapted to the characteristics of each environment, prioritizing the integration of solar panels on existing roofs or through canopies in parking areas. Additionally, the charging points for electric vehicles will be directly powered by the surplus energy generated by the photovoltaic plants, promoting a sustainable mobility model based on renewable energies.
With this project, Edison Next continues to strengthen its role as a strategic partner in the decarbonization of public infrastructures, promoting innovative solutions that combine energy efficiency, renewable energies, and sustainable mobility in particularly environmentally sensitive settings.
