Aena entrusts Edison Next with the energy optimization of the air conditioning in Terminal 3 of Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport.

Málaga Airport is one of the original locations of the first airline established in Spain in 1919. Located 8 kilometers from the city center and perfectly connected to the entire Costa del Sol, it consists of three terminals, the latest of which was inaugurated in March 2010. It covers an area of 250,000 m2, combining both departure and arrival areas on different levels. It also features a 225-meter-long glass facade. This airport is managed by Aena, a Spanish public company and the world’s leading airport operator by number of passengers, which is responsible for managing Spanish airports and heliports of special interest, as well as managing 23 foreign airports through its subsidiary Aena Internacional. At this Málaga airport, Aena has committed to optimizing the operation of the Terminal 3 facilities to improve user comfort and reduce energy consumption. Within this project, the Smart-Retrocommissioning area carried out the detection of hydraulic incompatibilities and the subsequent correction, renovation, and balancing of the HVAC water production-distribution circuits of the terminal, as the largest energy consumer, achieving a very significant overall operational optimization of the system. A major commitment by Aena, framed within a 2021-2030 sustainability strategy, aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda and composed of 5 programs, aimed at addressing the main environmental, social, and governance challenges, with action lines formed by projects and actions.
