Edison Next participates in the dissemination event of the Improvement-sudoe project at the National Hydrogen Center in Spain.

Edison Next participated in the second session of the dissemination event for the Improvement-sudoe project, the community initiative related to transnational cooperation in spatial planning and regional development. Under the name “Interreg improvement awareness raising event,” the company was present on November 28 at this event held in Puertollano (Ciudad Real); specifically at the headquarters of the National Hydrogen Center. The IMPROVEMENT project, funded by the Interreg Sudoe initiative of the European Commission, aims to address the challenge of integrating renewable energies and improving energy efficiency in public buildings. These are infrastructures where the quality and continuity of supply must be considered fundamental aspects and which use a large amount of energy for electricity, heating, and air conditioning. Given that these buildings include hospitals, research centers, transport stations, military facilities, among others, their conversion to zero-energy balance buildings is proposed. This conversion is carried out through the integration of microgrids for combined generation of cooling, heat, and electricity with active control and the use of hybrid electrical and thermal energy storage systems. To this end, pilot experiences are being carried out in research centers in Spain, specifically at the National Hydrogen Center and the National Laboratory of Energy and Geology in Portugal. For these reasons, the main objective of this event was to raise awareness about the improvement in Spain of “Quality and continuity of supply through hybrid energy storage systems in public buildings” and the dissemination of the main results of the Pilot Plant of the National Hydrogen Center (CNH2). To this end, various presentations were held during the day, divided into two blocks. A first block, focused on the IMPROVEMENT project for the Puertollano pilot plant in the field of CNH2, where spokespersons from the universities of Córdoba and Castilla-La Mancha spoke in detail about the pilot projects they are carrying out. And a second block, which featured presentations from experts in integration and energy efficiency in the public sector, with a special focus on hospital facilities. Edison Next participated in the second part of the day with a presentation focused on the theme “Energy implantations in public and tertiary buildings.” With it, the company contextualized the decarbonization strategy in the sector through energy efficiency actions, implementation of efficient systems, and provision of final energy through renewable energies. The solutions offered to buildings such as hospitals start from a centralized comprehensive control that includes production of energy vectors (heat, cold, steam, etc.), management of common spaces, rooms, electrical and energy consumption monitoring as a basis for generating an IoT data layer, which must then be structured for exploitation through energy saving services and operational efficiency such as the Edison Next WhyB building analytics service.
