Edison Next identifies the 4 energy trends for 2023

Energy efficiency, smart lighting, renewable energy, and carbon capture among the main energy trends, according to the company Edison Next, an energy services company and subsidiary of the leading Italian energy group EDISON, identifies the energy and sustainability trends that will shape the upcoming year 2023. In this regard, energy efficiency, smart lighting, renewable energy, and carbon capture would be the main energy trends, according to the company. Specifically, the energy specialist points out two strategic lines to bet on for the next fiscal year for the business fabric. On one hand, energy efficiency, where by measuring data and changing consumption habits, energy consumption can be significantly reduced. And on the other hand, investment in generation systems based on renewable energy, where photovoltaic self-consumption is the most mature technology. Indeed, according to data extracted from the latest report by the International Energy Agency (IEA), it is revealed that the electricity generation capacity of renewable sources is growing notably. So much so that it is estimated that in the next 5 years, as much renewable energy will be generated as in the previous 20 years. “The environmental journey has proven to be strictly linked to the technological one. For good and absolute resource management, it is key to increase investment in mature energy technologies such as energy efficiency and renewables, with special emphasis on photovoltaic self-consumption,” explains Jon Macías, Commercial Director of Edison Next Spain. Likewise, Edison Next highlights the implementation of smart lighting in cities and building parks, as well as sensorization systems, which allow visualizing energy consumption and analyzing usage/consumption data through Big Data. With the shift towards sustainable lighting, the specialist points out that lighting can be adjusted based on schedules and frequency of use in real time, enabling economic and energy savings. The company also highlights the boost that CO2 capture, use, and storage projects will have during 2023 to address the energy transition and combat global warming. “For Edison Next, CO2 capture, use, and storage technologies will play a fundamental role in gradually decarbonizing the economy and particularly the industrial sector. Therefore, we firmly bet on R&D of innovative technologies that accelerate the achievement of these objectives, and that enable a green future,” concludes Jon Macías, Commercial Director of Edison Next Spain.
