Edison Next invests more than 30 million euros in projects to lead the energy transition
It focuses on boosting energy efficiency, renewable energies, the circular economy, and carbon offsetting.
Edison Next, an energy services company and subsidiary of the EDISON energy group and the French giant EDF, celebrates its first anniversary since arriving in Spain and highlights the milestones achieved thanks to the launch of its €300 million investment plan.
During this year, the energy specialist plans to invest more than €30 million in projects focused on the energy transition. With this, Edison Next will continue its commitment to generation technologies and plans to add an additional 5 GW of installed capacity in wind, photovoltaic, and hydroelectric power, as well as biomethane and hydrogen in Spain.
Along these lines, it is not only focusing on developing self-consumption, where it plans to install 200 MW from biogas, cogeneration, trigeneration, and photovoltaics; but also on carbon capture, biomass, Smart Grids, and biogas plant projects.
Looking ahead to the coming years, the company is committed to continuing to lead the energy transition and decarbonization in Spain through its €300 million investment plan focused on four pillars: energy efficiency, renewable energies, the circular economy, and carbon offsetting.
In the words of the CEO of Edison Next Spain, Íñigo Bertrand, “this first year in Spain has been very positive for Edison Next. Therefore, our commitment is to continue leading the energy transition and decarbonization in Spain. Our €300 million investment plan focused on four pillars: efficiency, renewables, circular economy, and offsetting will allow us to continue investing in generation technologies and continue contributing to a more sustainable future.”
First year since its arrival in Spain
Since its arrival in the country last May, Edison Next has positioned itself as a leader in the energy transition and decarbonization, participating in major photovoltaic projects such as Pascual, ABN Pipe Systems, University of Córdoba, IVECO, Plastipack, ICF, among others. Furthermore, it has become a strategic partner for the decarbonization of both the public and private sectors, collaborating with several city councils on efficient public lighting projects, such as those in Madrid, Lleida, Gijón, and Bilbao.
Also noteworthy are some BMS (Building Management System) projects it has carried out in Spain during this year. For example, in collaboration with the Lleida City Council, it has implemented a monitoring and control system for heating and air conditioning in several municipal buildings, achieving a reduction in energy consumption of up to 20%. Similarly, the company has been selected by a top-tier healthcare corporation in Spain to install and commission a building management system (BMS) in a group of hospitals and clinics nationwide.
In all these projects, a reduction in energy consumption and significant economic savings have been achieved, as well as an improvement in users’ quality of life thanks to the implementation of comfort technologies and efficient resource management.
“We are very proud of the projects we have carried out this year at Edison Next. With such diversified projects, ranging from renewable energies and energy efficiency to public lighting, BMS, and Smart Buildings; we have continued to advance our commitment to the energy transition. Furthermore, we have worked in collaboration with various city councils and leading companies in different sectors to continue advancing our goal of making energy efficiency and sustainability a reality in our country,” explains Íñigo Bertrand, CEO of Edison Next Spain.
In a short time, Edison Next has managed to establish itself as one of the most innovative companies committed to sustainability and the environment in the Spanish energy market. In this way, its presence in Spain is key to the development of the energy sector, and its vision for the future promises to continue driving the energy transition in our country.
“We are very satisfied with the results obtained and will continue working with enthusiasm and dedication in the coming years to continue leading the transformation of the energy sector in Spain,” concludes the executive.
