Edison Next develops a dual photovoltaic project with an investment of 965,000 euros at the Estiu ice cream factory in Valencia.
Edison Next, an energy services company and subsidiary of the EDISON energy group and French giant EDF, is investing 965,000 euros in a photovoltaic self-consumption project at the facilities of Helados Estiu in Valencia, a leading company in the sector in Spain that sold 33 million liters of ice cream in 2022.
Both complexes, located in Valencia, have a rooftop installed capacity of over 1.5 MWp, with an estimated solar production of 2,050 MWh per year. The clean energy produced at these facilities will prevent the emission of 489 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere, equivalent to planting more than 1,600 trees. Additionally, the project will contribute to annual energy savings of 32,000 euros.
Specifically, one of Helados Estiu’s facilities, located in Cheste, is divided into two phases: Phase I and Phase II. On one hand, Phase I generates 760 MWh per year with 0.5133 MWp of capacity, contributing to annual energy savings of 14,000 euros and reducing CO2 emissions by 179 tons into the atmosphere. On the other hand, Phase II generates 858 MWh per year with 0.681 MWp of capacity, providing annual energy savings of 8,000 euros, equivalent to preventing 192 tons of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere.
Likewise, the Helados Estiu facility located in Ribarroja stands as another strategic site for the company in terms of renewable generation, as it generates 432 MWh annually with 0.339 MWp of capacity and allows savings of 10,000 euros per year, reducing CO2 emissions by 118 tons, equivalent to planting more than 389 trees.
To carry out the photovoltaic self-consumption project, Edison Next has opted for the PPA service model, which allows it to handle the investment, installation, and maintenance, while the client acquires an energy purchase service at a known price for years. This alternative reduces investment risks due to technical issues and generates economic and energy savings from day one for Estiu.
“The development of this photovoltaic project brings significant economic and energy benefits from day one. With the PPA model, we handle the comprehensive management, leading from design to commissioning and execution of maintenance services. Our commitment is to deliver to Helados Estiu all the energy it can self-consume at its facilities at the lowest project cost, and ensure that the PV installation produces the expected savings over the years,” says Jon Macías, Commercial Director of Edison Next Spain.
Edison Next’s commitment to sustainability and new renewable energy sources is part of the company’s strategy to become a leader in efficient solutions and renewable energies. In this regard, the energy company aims to contribute to the decarbonization of the economy and works to make its solutions accessible to everyone in our country.
