Edison Next develops in Andalusia the first photovoltaic self-consumption PPA for an Irrigation Community.
Edison Next, an energy services company and subsidiary of the EDISON energy group and the French giant EDF, has been chosen by the Villafranca de Córdoba Irrigation Community (Andalusia) to advance its self-consumption strategy. To carry out the installation, Edison Next has relied on the help of Elmya Instalaciones, a company specializing in electrical installations and photovoltaic self-consumption. In this way, they will bet on the sustainable energy of the future and on savings in operating costs.
The initiative arises with the aim of seeking cleaner and more sustainable energy sources that increase the community’s energy efficiency and independence, while also saving on the ever-increasing energy bills of irrigated crops.
Once completed, the installation will have 1,188 high-efficiency photovoltaic modules, for which 3 three-phase inverters will have been used, in addition to an autotransformer to supply energy at the same voltage as the Community consumes it. The fixed ground-mounted structure, tilted at 30 degrees and configured in a design of 2 rows of 27 modules, has been designed with the help of Elmya Instalaciones to maximize sunlight capture and sustainable energy production. As a result, the power of the photovoltaic installation will reach 653.4 kWp.
This self-consumption PPA project will allow the Villafranca de Córdoba Irrigation Community, without any investment, to take advantage of the energy generated to power its pumping systems, which will translate into significant savings in energy costs and a considerable reduction in the carbon footprint. Furthermore, it will contribute to environmental conservation by reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
In the words of José Antonio de la Rosa, president of the Villafranca de Córdoba Irrigation Community, “reducing our costs in the medium term without prior investment has been a great advantage for us, in addition to the environmental benefits. We expect the completion of the work shortly in order to begin enjoying these benefits.”
For its part, through this initiative, Edison Next reinforces its strong commitment to sustainability and the fight against climate change, as well as to its customers in the essential primary sector. “Initiatives like this highlight the growing commitment of farmers and Irrigation Communities to sustainable energy sources and to making responsible and efficient use of energy resources. At Edison Next, we are very proud to be able to help them achieve their savings goals, reduce their carbon footprint, and increase their energy independence, which brings us closer to a more sustainable future,” concludes Manuel Barrera, Solar PV Manager & South Area Sales Manager at Edison Next.
On behalf of Elmya Instalaciones, Laura Montero López, Offer Engineer, believes that “this project highlights the importance of the collaboration between Elmya Instalaciones and Edison Next, which form an alliance in the promotion and establishment of sustainable energy and become a strategic team on the path towards a cleaner and more energy-efficient future.”
Energy initiatives like this photovoltaic self-consumption installation with a PPA for the Villafranca de Córdoba Irrigation Community, associated with Feragua, are an example of how the union of innovation and sustainability in the primary sector brings both economic and environmental benefits.
