Edison Next will renovate the public lighting of Ibiza with LED technology to improve the city’s energy efficiency.
The city of Ibiza is moving towards a more efficient, modern, and environmentally friendly urban model. In the coming months, the municipality will carry out a comprehensive renovation of its public lighting network with the help of Edison Next Spain, a company specialized in energy and environmental solutions. The project, promoted by the Ajuntament d’Eivissa and aligned with the European Union’s climate and sustainability objectives, will be financed through the Next Generation EU funds within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
The intervention involves replacing 1,475 old light points with state-of-the-art LED luminaires, as well as renovating 23 electrical panels, which will be equipped with improved protections and advanced control systems.
With this modernization, the municipality will achieve significant energy savings of 41.5%, reducing its annual consumption from 593,776 kWh to 347,337 kWh, which equates to more than 246,000 kWh less per year. This improvement will also prevent the emission of 64 tons of CO₂ annually, favoring the conservation and improvement of the environment, as well as enhancing the quality of life for the island’s residents.
The new luminaires, supplied by leading manufacturers such as Signify (Philips), Benito, and Roura, have been selected for their high efficiency, durability, and adaptability to marine environments. With a lifespan exceeding 100,000 hours, these solutions guarantee durability and minimal maintenance. Furthermore, their configuration with a warm color temperature (3,000K) not only improves the visual quality of urban lighting but also helps reduce light pollution, preserving biodiversity and the balance of Ibiza’s nocturnal ecosystem.
The intervention will also involve a notable reduction in installed power, from 134.5 kW to 92.3 kW, optimizing the overall performance of the municipal electrical grid. The installation of remote control systems will in turn provide greater flexibility and management capacity for the city council, allowing for more efficient programming, regulation, and monitoring of the lighting.
Edison Next Spain has committed to developing the project following circular economy criteria and responsible waste management, ensuring, for example, that all removed material is recycled or recovered by authorized managers. This reinforces the comprehensive approach of the project, which not only bets on energy efficiency but also on an intervention that is respectful of the environment.
For Edison Next, which has extensive experience in similar urban sustainability projects, this project once again reinforces its commitment to the sustainable transformation of cities and its willingness to accompany local administrations in implementing solutions that combine technological innovation, positive environmental impact, and improvement of citizens’ quality of life.
For its part, thanks to this initiative, the city of Ibiza not only modernizes its lighting network but also lights a new path towards sustainability. A transformation that will become visible in its streets, squares, and public spaces, and which is also a declaration of intent about the Ibiza of the future.
