Sustainability and protection of the atmosphere, two challenges that advance together
Every September 16, the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer is commemorated, a date that, although we already know, reminds us that this invisible shield is necessary for life on Earth. Its function of filtering ultraviolet radiation has been at risk due to the massive use of polluting gases such as CFCs, which for decades threatened health, biodiversity, and ecosystems. Although its recovery is underway, sustainability requires maintaining vigilance and betting on innovation and commitment.
Protecting the atmosphere is a necessary step that helps us transform our production and consumption systems toward sustainable models. It is not enough to eliminate harmful substances; it is necessary to improve the efficiency of energy systems, reduce consumption, prevent leaks, etc. It lies in every decision we make to manage energy more intelligently and responsibly. From an industrial plant that improves the efficiency of its HVAC system to a municipality that modernizes its public lighting, every improvement counts. By reducing electricity consumption and using cleaner technologies, we contribute to reducing the release of substances that damage the atmosphere and allow us to move toward sustainability.
At Edison Next Spain, we have been working for years to turn this vision into concrete actions. Our projects combine energy efficiency, renewable energies, circular economy, and digitalization to reduce both the carbon footprint and the environmental impact associated with our clients’ operations.
After years of work, our commitment is backed by tangible figures. We manage more than 2,450 GWh of energy, avoid 120,550 tons of CO₂ per year, maintain 500,000 lighting points in 40 cities, and optimize the operation of more than 2,000 buildings throughout Spain. In the industrial sector, we have already developed more than 2,500 projects for over 50 clients in key sectors such as chemicals, food, pharmaceuticals, and automotive.
Furthermore, our commitment to renewable energy projects, such as biomass, energy storage, solar, or green gases, together with advanced energy efficiency solutions, allows us to make the most of resources like water, cold, or heat, transforming them into useful energy. In this way, it is possible to maintain the same production levels with much lower consumption, resulting in a more sustainable and competitive production process and a significant reduction in CO₂ emissions, thus contributing, directly and indirectly, to protecting the atmosphere and the ozone layer.
The recovery of the ozone layer that we have achieved together so far shows that, with technology, cooperation, and determination, it is not too late to reverse large-scale environmental damage. That is why, at Edison Next, we advocate that every project that optimizes our clients’ energy consumption, improves efficiency, and prevents emissions is one more step toward a fairer and more sustainable energy model, which helps us care for and preserve our planet.
