Edison Next and CEOE bring together business leaders to promote Energy Saving Certificates.

The CEOE headquarters in Madrid hosted this morning the conference “Energy Savings Certificates: How to Transform Sustainability into a Competitive Advantage for Companies?”, organized by Edison Next Spain and the Spanish Confederation of Business Organizations (CEOE). The meeting brought together key players from the business sector to discuss the potential role of Energy Savings Certificates (CAEs) as a tool to accelerate the transition towards more sustainable and profitable production models. The institutional opening was led by Aniceto Zaragoza, Vice President of the Industry and Ecological Transition Commission of CEOE, who highlighted that “the decarbonization of the Spanish economy necessarily requires instruments that enable companies to innovate without losing competitiveness, and CAEs are a great example of how we should make these tools work”. Next, Íñigo Bertrand, CEO of Edison Next, emphasized that the certificates have become the best example of “a useful and effective tool that monetizes energy savings, finances efficiency projects, and turns sustainability into a genuine strategic advantage”. The conference continued with a colloquium on competitiveness and business sustainability, moderated by Álvaro Ballarín, Head of the Industry and Energy Area at CEOE. During the panel, the speakers provided a practical view of Energy Savings Certificates (CAEs), from their direct experience in projects that have been unlocked or accelerated thanks to this mechanism, to the main strengths of the system, such as its agility and ability to generate additional savings. There was also time to address the real difficulties companies face in their implementation and to offer recommendations to those companies that have not yet taken the step and want to start leveraging this tool to improve their competitiveness and advance in sustainability. The importance of having monitoring systems and data records was highlighted, as well as the need to include CAEs in the decision-making and approval process of any project, to ensure the possibility of monetizing the savings generated through this system. Industry leaders such as Luis Thomas (ABB), Esther Gutiérrez Rodríguez (EQA), Marta Bango (Verallia), and Giulia Realmonte (Edison Next) were part of a roundtable that concluded that a proper and continuous implementation of CAEs will continue to allow companies to reduce emissions while strengthening their positioning with clients and investors. “CAEs allow companies to monetize energy savings from the very first moment, reducing overall CAPEX and shortening payback periods. Compared to other subsidies, they stand out for their agility and simplicity, making them a key lever to accelerate decarbonization projects”, stated Giulia Realmonte, Head of CAEs and Electric Mobility at Edison Next. Since Edison Next joined CEOE as a partner last year, the company has strengthened its role as a strategic ally to accelerate the decarbonization of the Spanish business landscape. This membership, backed by an ambitious investment plan of 2.5 billion euros by 2030, of which 300 million will be allocated to the Spanish energy services sector, is enabling Edison Next Spain to share its expertise with the country’s leading organizations.
