2025, a year in which we have turned the energy transition into real impact.
2025 has been a year of consolidation for Edison Next Spain. Not so much for a single major announcement, but rather for the sum of all the projects, alliances, and decisions that have demonstrated how to truly advance the energy transition and connect it with the reality of businesses, cities, and people.
We started the year by strengthening our position as a comprehensive energy partner with the acquisition of Ecoclima, an operation that expanded our capabilities in efficient HVAC and ventilation. Beyond corporate growth, this move responded to our clear conviction that decarbonization requires increasingly specialized solutions and greater technical capacity to act in sectors where energy efficiency is critical, such as industrial and commercial.
That vision also translated into the deployment of renewable projects directly linked to real consumption. An example is the completion of the first phase of the solar project at Alstom’s industrial center in Barcelona, a facility designed to generate clean energy and thus reinforce the energy autonomy of a large industrial plant, tangibly reducing its carbon footprint. When integrated into production processes, the transition ceases to be an abstract goal and becomes a competitive advantage.
At the same time, the year has been marked by a firm commitment to biomethane as a key piece of the future energy mix. The alliance with Greening and Atlantica to develop a portfolio of renewable gas projects has improved our position in an area set to play a fundamental role in decarbonizing sectors that are difficult to electrify.
In parallel, in 2025 we have definitively internalized as a society that the energy transition will also necessarily be built from cities. The renovation of Ibiza’s public lighting with LED technology or the development of our pilot project that combines photovoltaic generation, storage, and intelligent energy management reflect how we ensure that innovation can improve the efficiency of public services and, at the same time, enhance urban quality of life.
Furthermore, the award of the contract from the Lleida City Council for the comprehensive modernization of its public lighting represents one of the largest projects this year. This initiative, which reinforces our vision of an urban transition that transforms city infrastructure into more sustainable services oriented towards people’s well-being, will improve energy efficiency, reduce emissions, and optimize urban electricity consumption.
Mobility has been another key focus of the year. Thanks to our collaboration with Karos to transform carpooling into certified energy savings, we have created the innovative idea that it is possible to reward users for making more sustainable decisions. One more step towards a transition that depends not only on infrastructure but also on how we move and make decisions.
The tourism sector, key to the Spanish economy, has also advanced in this direction. The collaboration with BlueSea Hotels to begin the decarbonization of their hotels has demonstrated to the tourism sector that sustainability and competitiveness can go hand in hand, even in environments with high energy demand such as hotels.
Finally, the commitment to renewable gases has taken a decisive step with the acquisition from Iberdrola of five cogeneration plants for slurry treatment and a portfolio of biomethane projects under development. Beyond capacity growth, the integration of these assets has reflected our conviction that the circular economy and energy recovery from waste are essential pillars of the future energy system, capable of generating long-term environmental, industrial, and territorial value.
All of this has happened without losing sight of people. In a year marked by episodes of extreme heat, we have reinforced our protection measures for field teams, integrating technology and prevention to care for health and occupational safety.
Looking at the whole, 2025 has left us with a great lesson: the energy transition no longer advances through isolated projects, but rather through ecosystems of solutions that combine efficiency, renewables, digitalization, and collaboration. This great year has confirmed the success of our way of working: accompanying companies and territories with a long-term vision, turning each project into one more step towards a smarter, more resilient energy model connected to the real needs of society.
