Smart energy and sustainability to win the battle against climate change

Every October 24th, the world remembers that climate change is an increasingly real threat that is already transforming our environment. More intense heatwaves, episodes of torrential rain, biodiversity loss, and alterations in water cycles are just some of the visible effects of a planet that is asking us to act. International Day Against Climate Change is not, therefore, a merely symbolic date; it is a reminder that the transition towards a low-carbon energy model cannot wait. The challenge is enormous, but fortunately, so are the opportunities. This fight demands more than just statements of intent. It demands measurable actions, effective technological solutions, and, above all, collective commitment. With this in mind, at Edison Next Spain we work every day to make sustainability a tangible reality. Our proposal integrates energy efficiency, renewable energies, circular economy, and digitalization, offering companies, industry, and public administrations a mix of solutions that allows them to reduce their carbon footprint while optimizing costs. The results support our effort. We currently manage more than 2,450 GWh of energy per year, avoid the emission of 120,550 tons of CO₂, maintain 400,000 lighting points in 40 cities, and optimize the operation of more than 2,000 buildings throughout Spain. In the industrial field, we have developed more than 2,500 projects for over 50 clients in sectors as diverse as chemicals, food, pharmaceuticals, and automotive. Each of these projects demonstrates that energy innovation is a real tool for reducing emissions and moving towards a cleaner and more competitive model. And indeed, the fight against climate change is also an economic opportunity. Every heating and cooling system that improves its efficiency, every building that reduces its energy demand, or every industrial plant that harnesses resources like residual heat contributes to the creation of green jobs, attracts investment, and consolidates a more resilient productive fabric against future energy crises. The transition towards a low-carbon economy not only protects the planet but also drives innovation, fosters energy independence, and strengthens the competitiveness of Spanish companies. Furthermore, the experience we have accumulated in recent years shows us that technology, public-private cooperation, and collective determination are essential to reverse the environmental damage caused by decades of neglect; the recovery of the ozone layer is a good example of this. International Day Against Climate Change is, ultimately, an invitation to move from words to action. It is not just about protecting the environment, but about designing a future where sustainability is synonymous with progress. At Edison Next we believe that, instead of waiting for the future, we must build it today, together, showing ourselves that, with bold decisions, it is possible to do so.
