The Lleida City Council awards a 31 million euro contract to Edison Next and Romero Polo to modernize the lighting.

The Lleida City Council has awarded the contract for the renovation and maintenance of its public lighting network to the joint venture (UTE) formed by Edison Next, an energy solutions specialist and subsidiary of the EDISON group and the French giant EDF; and Romero Polo, a company specializing in comprehensive urban waste management. With a total investment of 31.3 million euros and a twelve-month execution period, the project will comprehensively transform the urban lighting infrastructure and mark a before and after in municipal energy management. Through this new contract, which adds to the public lighting maintenance service that Edison Next was already providing, the company will launch a project whose works will begin after the official signing, scheduled for mid-June. This project is part of the local strategy to achieve a more efficient, sustainable, and technologically advanced lighting network. To this end, the contract provides for the replacement of 14,545 light points with LED luminaires, allowing for reduced energy consumption and CO₂ emissions. Additionally, individual remote management systems, 200 environmental multi-sensors, and 25 solar streetlights will be installed, paving the way towards a lighting infrastructure adapted to smart city standards. This transformation also has the backing of the Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving (IDAE), which has granted Lleida a subsidy of 8.6 million euros, following the successful presentation of the municipal project to the call for grants for the renovation of exterior lighting. Furthermore, the new contract not only includes the replacement of luminaires and the improvement of energy efficiency but also the maintenance and conservation of all existing infrastructure for over a decade. Edison Next and Romero Polo, which will operate under the name UTE LleidaLlum, will be responsible for both the execution of the works linked to the IDAE grant and the complete maintenance of the network starting in January next year. With this contract, Lleida reinforces its commitment to a more efficient, safe, and sustainable city, moving towards a smarter and more environmentally responsible energy model. Edison Next, for its part, consolidates its position as one of the key players in the energy transformation of Spanish cities, providing cutting-edge technological solutions in collaboration with strategic partners such as Romero Polo. “This contract represents a great opportunity to consolidate a more efficient, digital, and sustainable public lighting model, positioning Lleida as a national benchmark in energy transition. Our collaboration with Romero Polo also guarantees execution that is close to and committed to the local environment,” state sources from Edison Next Spain.
