Edison Next promotes energy efficiency at Iberquimia 2024 with solutions for the decarbonization of the chemical sector.

This week, Edison Next participated in Iberquimia Barcelona 2024, a key event for chemical industry professionals, organized by Industria Química magazine. At this gathering, our colleague Jordi Aguilera, Sales Engineer at Edison Next, was one of the featured speakers of the day. In his presentation, “Efficiency, the first step towards decarbonizing the chemical industry,” Aguilera explained the planning and methodology necessary for an industry to begin its transition towards decarbonization. He highlighted the importance of selecting the right technologies not only based on their sustainability but also on their competitiveness. He then focused on explaining two practical examples of technologies aimed at decarbonizing thermal demand, also illustrating the optimal order for making investments. The chemical sector, crucial for many other industries, faces the need for a profound transformation towards more sustainable production models, with an estimated investment of 75 billion euros by 2050 to implement clean technologies that reduce its environmental impact without compromising its competitiveness. During his speech, Jordi Aguilera emphasized how at Edison Next we advocate for technological neutrality, avoiding focusing on a single solution in order to adapt to the specific characteristics and needs of each client or sector, such as the chemical industry. This means that, depending on the circumstances, we implement everything from solutions with a high level of maturity and availability, such as photovoltaic or cogeneration projects, to more emerging and developing options, like hydrogen production or biomethane solutions, to which Aguilera dedicated a large part of his presentation. Furthermore, as a Delegate Subject in the Energy Savings Certificates (CAEs) system, Edison Next has committed to accelerating and facilitating this transition. The CAEs system is a strategic tool that allows companies to implement energy efficiency projects, achieving much shorter investment returns and unlocking many of these projects that had unclear returns, thereby incentivizing the adoption of energy efficiency measures in a sector that must lead the way towards decarbonization. Another aspect highlighted by Aguilera was Edison Next’s focus on improving energy efficiency. Operations in the chemical industry require intensive energy consumption, and the implementation of advanced energy management solutions significantly reduces polluting emissions. Technologies such as Building Management Systems (BMS) allow for monitoring and automatically adjusting energy use in plants and facilities, optimizing energy consumption and promoting operational efficiency. Iberquimia Barcelona 2024 is an unmissable event for the chemical sector, and its relevance goes beyond the simple exhibition of products or technological solutions. This type of event plays a crucial role in promoting dialogue, collaboration, and the exchange of ideas among the main players in the sector.
