AENA entrusts Edison Next with the installation of the new efficient LED lighting at the Bilbao and Son Bonet airports.

Edison Next, an energy services company and subsidiary of the Italian market leader EDISON, has been selected by AENA’s procurement department, along with EMartin, to implement new LED lighting in several areas of Bilbao (Basque Country) and Son Bonet (Mallorca) airports to improve the energy efficiency of the facilities. Both initiatives, which will be developed by Edison Next and EMartin—with whom Edison has formed a joint venture for this project—are part of AENA’s gradual program to improve lighting at its facilities. Through this project, the Spanish airport operator aims to modernize its lighting while enhancing both energy and economic efficiency and savings. The contract has just been awarded to Edison Next Spain for a final amount of €1,588,741, representing a 3% saving compared to the base tender budget of €1,638,262. The energy company will have a 13-month deadline to complete this project, which will achieve significant annual energy savings. The agreement includes the supply and installation of equipment associated with the various lighting systems, primarily located in terminal and service buildings, as well as in parking lots and airport access roads. Specifically, at Bilbao Airport, a complete renovation to LED technology will be implemented, covering key areas such as the fire station, P1 parking lot, the central check-in beam, and offices on the P20 floor. The initiative also includes installing RGBW projectors to improve central lighting in the terminal. Additionally, lighting will be upgraded in the 6 boarding gates and various outdoor areas, ensuring improved energy efficiency and overall safety. On the other hand, at Son Bonet Airport in Mallorca, all luminaires on columns and masts will be replaced with new LED ones. Outdoor lighting will also be improved, with waterproof screens installed in the parking lot and decorative luminaires in the garden. Indoors, the lighting in several buildings and hangars will be completely renovated and replaced with LED technology.
