Alcalá de Henares trusts Edison Next for the maintenance and improvement of the public lighting network.

At Edison Next, we continue to advance on the path of leading the energy transition, and with it, bringing efficiency to all corners of Spain. For this reason, we work with local administrations in the management and maintenance of the energy consumption of cities and their lighting. This synergy allows us to tackle climate change from all perspectives, helping cities become more attractive, sustainable, and safe through energy. In this context, we have been awarded a new tender in the municipality of Alcalá de Henares, a city in the province of Madrid. This agreement is part of the city council’s corporate responsibility strategy, whose objective is to promote sustainability through the renovation of public lighting, which currently has 18,280 light points. This award guarantees the continuity of the delegation, as well as that of all colleagues in the Alcalá area, since we have been working with this body since 1992. The awarded contract has a duration of 4 years and a possible one-year extension, with an annual amount of €890,215. This amount is divided into three items:
    • The largest item concerns the ordinary maintenance of the luminaires, valued at €750,215.
    • The second annual item aims to expand and improve the public lighting network, with an amount of €90,000.
    • And finally, a third annual item of €50,000 for the repair of damages caused by third parties.
This continuity contract reinforces the commitment of the Alcalá city council to guarantee and bring efficiency and sustainability to its citizens. Through this investment, not only is the visual appearance of the neighborhoods renewed, promoting a better look and safety, but it also contributes to significant savings in the municipal energy bill. Likewise, thanks to the technology implemented in the luminaires, their use can be monitored, reducing brightness depending on the time of day and weather conditions. Indeed, the intelligent management system provided allows administrations to reduce their energy bill by monitoring luminaires remotely. Furthermore, the amount awarded in the tender allows the company to maintain the light points in the municipality of Alcalá through inspections to ensure proper service delivery. With all this, at Edison Next we are helping more than 40 cities reduce their energy consumption and achieve the transition, thanks to the management of more than 1,000 buildings with IoT technology and the implementation and maintenance of 460,000 light points. To do this, we have the latest technology for Smart Cities, which allows municipalities to contribute to savings on their energy bill and control facilities remotely, while improving safety in cities. Technological innovation, research, and development are strategic pillars for Edison Next, as they allow us to successfully and decisively address the current challenges in both the economic and climate spheres.
