EU Green Deal: the roadmap towards carbon neutrality

Climate change is a latent threat that we must curb. An urgent response is needed to limit the footprint of human activity. At stake is the future of the planet and the legacy of future generations. In 2019, the European Union (EU) proposed a roadmap to promote the efficient use of resources, the transition to a circular economy, and the reduction of pollution. The goal is to make Europe the first climate-neutral continent by 2050. We are talking about the European Green Deal, which seeks to protect our natural habitat and curb climate change and its effects, transforming our economy and society towards a fair, green, and prosperous future where carbon emissions are minimal. With this, the EU takes the lead in global leadership towards climate neutrality through a strategy and a series of legislative tools that enable it to become Carbon Neutral. With the intention of ensuring it meets the challenge agreed upon in said European Climate Law, the EU has recently approved “Fit for 55,” a set of measures that increases the target for reducing net greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 to 55% (initially 40%), compared to 1990 levels. Achieving this emission reduction challenge in the next decade is vital for Europe to be climate-neutral by 2050 and to reach the goal pursued by the European Green Deal. This is a long-term strategy that fosters the transformation of countries towards a context with more modern, efficient, and competitive economies. It bets on reducing pollution through clean energy, energy transformation, promoting the circular economy, efficient use of resources, and restoring biodiversity. It is time to invest in a sustainable future based on renewable energy sources and environmentally responsible technologies. It is time to bet on more efficient transport systems, energy-responsible buildings, and the digitalization of energy. In short, to support a more efficient energy model that pursues the reduction of the carbon footprint. Europe has already taken the lead. Will you join the pact for the decarbonization of the planet?
