Edison Next will work for Acciona on the renovation of public lighting in Gijón.

Edison Next, an energy services company and subsidiary of the Italian leader in the energy market EDISON, is developing a technological project for Acciona to renovate both outdoor public lighting and indoor facilities in Gijón. All of this aims to generate a change in the city’s energy model and promote the transition towards more sustainable consumption. The project aims to improve the city’s lighting infrastructure, achieve a 48% savings in energy consumption for its public lighting, reduce CO2 emissions by 30%, and modernize its lighting installations in both outdoor locations and indoor facilities. To this end, Edison Next will renovate all outdoor lighting points in the municipality, a total of 42,788 luminaires and 1,734 lamps with LED technology. Additionally, it will install 6,446 presence sensors to optimize lighting.

Regarding indoor installations, the company will carry out the assembly of 23,199 luminaires and 550 lamps with LED technology. As well as the implementation of 3,793 regulation systems, which combine presence detection with outdoor lighting. And, the installation of outdoor lighting in eight buildings with specific technology for remote control and programming of lighting.

A whole series of new resources that will allow Gijón to achieve more efficient energy consumption through decision-making based on the analysis of information generated and collected regarding energy uses. In the words of Iñigo Bertrand, CEO of Edison Next, “through the execution of this project, we are committed to a comprehensive change in the city’s energy model, improving energy management and the use of more efficient lighting. A commitment that lays the foundations for a modern, intelligent, sustainable city committed to the energy transition.” Additionally, basic sensorization of 182 buildings will be carried out to control electricity, gas, and water consumption. As well as the monitoring of more than 25 buildings, managing parameters such as temperature or humidity control; and implementing sound level meters, gas and CO2 leak sensors, AI cameras, among others. Furthermore, to complete the project, 5 stations will be installed for measuring air quality, energy improvement, and lighting in 150 shops in the city and in 100 homes.
