The Madrid City Council awards the management of public lighting to the joint venture formed by Edison Next and ACEINSA.

The project is launched with the aim of reducing the energy consumption of its public lighting, renovating and modernizing its lighting installations, adapting them to new regulations. Edison Next, an energy services company and subsidiary of the Italian group EDISON, a leader in the energy market; in a UTE (Temporary Business Union) with ACEINSA, has been the energy company selected by the Madrid City Council for the conservation and modernization of public lighting in eastern Madrid, which includes the area outside the M-30 and the districts of Puente de Vallecas, Moratalaz, Ciudad Lineal, Hortaleza, Villa de Vallecas, Vicálvaro, San Blas-Canillejas, and Barajas. With a three-year contract, extendable for an additional two years, and an investment of over 44 million euros, this commitment by the Madrid City Council aims to reduce the energy consumption of its public lighting, renovate and modernize its lighting installations, adapting them to new regulations. “This is a major technological renovation of Madrid’s public lighting, which will allow for a better adjustment to the city’s real needs, as well as a global boost to achieve the highest energy efficiency,” explains Íñigo Bertrand, CEO of Edison Next Spain. To this end, the energy company will be responsible for the management and maintenance of more than 92,000 lighting points and the commissioning of over 1,040 control centers. In addition to managing the lighting points, collecting that data, and interconnecting with different platforms, including the exploitation of the collected data to carry out consumption and lighting actions and studies. Along the same lines, the UTE will be responsible for the supervision, monitoring, and remote control of the control centers and their installations, as well as overseeing the maintenance activities of the installations and issuing reports on the operation of public lighting. “At Edison Next, we will work to promote efficiency and maximum energy savings in Madrid’s lighting systems, contributing to Madrid continuing to be one of the leading cities in terms of efficiency and lighting modernization,” concludes the executive.
