The Government’s Most Energy Security Plan aims to boost solar energy and energy efficiency.

The Council of Ministers, at the proposal of the Ministry for the Energy Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO), has approved the More Energy Security Plan, which includes the main measures for energy security and the promotion of renewable energies. This initiative aims to increase the protection of the population against the price crisis caused by the current geopolitical situation. It will also reduce the country’s gas consumption by between 5.1% and 13.5%, improve energy autonomy, and increase the competitiveness of the economy. This Plan leverages funds from the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR), accelerating and facilitating its implementation. It contains 73 measures structured into six main blocks: energy saving and efficiency; promotion of the energy transition; protection of vulnerable consumers, households, and businesses; fiscal measures; strategic autonomy; and solidarity with other European partners. Among these measures, there is a commitment to boost solar rooftops, energy communities, and self-consumption, with 500 million euros and greater facilities for the execution of these projects. In this way, it aims to streamline the processing of renewable projects and proposes modifying the current 2021-2016 Electricity Planning to make strategic projects viable and launch a new 2024-2029 Planning to integrate more renewable projects. Likewise, it should be noted that this plan includes greater support for industry and the reinforcement of the industrial capacities of the energy transition, notably an increase of 1,000 million to the endowment of the PERTE for Renewables, Renewable Hydrogen and Storage, as well as a new PERTE for the Decarbonization of Industry. A whole series of measures, aligned with the objectives of the European Union, with which it aims to be climate neutral by the year 2050. This goal constitutes the core of the European Green Deal and is in line with the community commitment to increase global climate action in line with the commitments of the Paris Agreement. At Edison Next Spain, we work with the main objective of helping our clients improve their energy efficiency, reducing the use of fossil fuels and accompanying them on the path towards sustainability and energy profitability. Therefore, it welcomes all those measures that allow them to reduce their energy consumption and achieve their ecological transition in the coming years.
