Saint-Gobain and Edison Next sign an agreement to promote energy savings through Energy Savings Certificates.

Saint-Gobain Spain, a leader in lightweight and sustainable construction, has signed a framework agreement with Edison Next, an energy services company and subsidiary of the EDISON energy group and the French giant EDF, for the management of Energy Savings Certificates (CAEs). These certificates are aligned with the energy efficiency projects that Saint-Gobain is carrying out together with Edison Next at the Saint-Gobain Placo factories in San Martín Polvo and Soneja, and Saint-Gobain Isover in Azuqueca, as part of the agreement signed for all businesses and activities of the Group in Spain. Specifically, some of these projects are focused on utilities and energy vectors, while others involve improvements to the production process to reduce consumption and increase the company’s competitiveness. Furthermore, these projects encompass both standard and unique solutions, thus demonstrating Saint-Gobain’s commitment to energy efficiency in its operations and the company’s continuous progress in this area. In this regard, Edison Next is one of the first companies accredited as a ‘Delegated Entity’ by the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (MITECO), to manage CAEs generated by projects that demonstrate final energy savings. These CAEs, in addition to promoting investments and energy efficiency measures that reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions, represent economic savings for companies. These certificates are established as documents validated by accredited bodies and issued by public administrations that certify the annual energy savings derived from an investment in energy efficiency, and are included in Royal Decree 36/2023. This agreement between the two companies will facilitate the capitalization of CAEs by the Saint-Gobain Group, accelerating investments in energy efficiency and reducing investment return periods. Likewise, technological changes and process electrification will be prioritized to reduce the carbon footprint of scopes 1 and 2, aligning with the Group’s objectives for 2030 and 2050. With this initiative, Saint-Gobain is moving towards its purpose, “MAKING THE WORLD A BETTER HOME,” which responds to the shared ambition of all the women and men of the Group to act every day to make the world a more beautiful and sustainable place to live.
