Molins de Rei Lights Up with LED Technology by Edison Next
At Edison Next, we reaffirm our commitment to sustainability by working in continuous collaboration with public institutions in municipalities across Spain to promote energy efficiency. We have recently completed the works of the energy efficiency improvement project in Molins del Rei, integrated within the Local Climate Change Adaptation Plan (PLACC) developed by the local city council. This project has achieved a significant transformation and modernization of the public lighting system in the municipality.
Initially, the modernization and replacement of 939 luminaires was planned, but thanks to efficient management, we have managed to replace an additional 107 luminaires, reaching a total of 1,046 luminaires replaced. Furthermore, the municipality now has 16 cabinets with interior upgrades and remote management, 9 of which have been installed in recent months.
This initiative will not only result in significant energy savings of 60.6%, but will also help reduce CO2 emissions by 68.3 tons per year, thus promoting a cleaner and more sustainable environment for Molins de Rei. Additionally, an annual economic saving of 52,548 euros is anticipated, highlighting both the environmental and financial benefits that this initiative will bring to the municipality.
Thanks to the work we have carried out over the 3 months that the works lasted, and with a total budget of 584,698 euros, we have achieved that currently 73.68% of the municipality’s luminaires are LED technology. Specifically, 80.53% of luminaires in the urban center, 33.69% in residential developments, and 42.25% in industrial estates now have this technology.
Compared to conventional light sources, such as the incandescent or fluorescent lamps previously installed in the Catalan town, this technology will allow for more precise and flexible control of public lighting, adapting it to the specific needs of each area, which will improve the safety and comfort of residents. Furthermore, the extended lifespan of LEDs will result in less need for maintenance and frequent replacement of luminaires, thus optimizing municipal resources.
Through this initiative, made possible by a grant from the Barcelona Provincial Council, the Molins de Rei City Council continues to demonstrate its firm commitment to sustainability and the modernization of its infrastructure, positioning itself as a benchmark in the implementation of efficient and environmentally friendly technologies.
At Edison Next, we are proud to have been part of this ambitious project and to contribute, once again, to improving the quality of life of the citizens of Molins de Rei through innovative and sustainable solutions.
