The Rivas Vaciamadrid City Council awards Edison Next a photovoltaic project worth more than 350,000 euros.
To transform the city’s energy model, the Governing Board of the Rivas Vaciamadrid City Council has awarded Edison Next, an energy services company and subsidiary of the energy group EDISON and the French giant EDF, a project for the supply and installation of photovoltaic panels in municipal facilities.
A project, which will have a total budget of 354,549 euros and a six-month execution period to boost self-consumption in the Madrid municipality.
The project, which aims to increase the use of solar energy by installing photovoltaic panels on the roofs of various buildings and facilities, will meet several needs. These include the production of electrical energy from solar radiation and its subsequent injection into the grid of municipal facilities for self-consumption, thus covering part or most of the energy demand of these buildings.
Furthermore, the initiative includes storing surplus energy produced for use when the renewable resource is insufficient, to reduce the energy bill and maximize the flexibility of the photovoltaic system.
The installations will be carried out in five different locations in the municipality. At the La Rayuela Children’s Center, the Las Cigüeñas School, and the Dulce Chacón School, a complete engineering and installation of solar panels will be carried out, with a minimum self-consumption capacity of between 25 and 103 kWp. Likewise, the La Casa Más Grande Youth Center will see the installation of a photovoltaic system with a minimum capacity of 20 kWp. Finally, at the exterior parking lot of the Local Police building, an installation with a minimum capacity of 103 kWp will be carried out.
The company Edison Next, in its commitment to sustainability, has assured that it will take all necessary measures to minimize the environmental impact during the execution of the project. These measures include avoiding dust formation and emissions into the atmosphere in general, keeping noise levels below permitted thresholds, and proposing installations in municipal buildings that are respectful of the environment. Additionally, the contract includes comprehensive, preventive, and corrective maintenance of the installations for a minimum of two years, thus ensuring the efficiency and durability of the installed systems.
This new project adds to previous successful initiatives by Edison Next in Rivas Vaciamadrid. Among them, a photovoltaic project stands out that generated 364,892 kWh of energy last year and avoided the emission of more than 120 tons of CO2. Another relevant project was the energy saving and efficiency program in public early childhood and primary education schools, which managed to avoid the emission of more than seven tons of CO2 between September 2021 and June 2022, in addition to economic savings of more than 24,504 euros.
Likewise, Edison Next implemented an open information system that, through the monitoring and control of more than 40 municipal buildings, public lighting, parks, and gardens, achieved total savings in electricity, water, and gas equivalent to more than 144 tons of CO2 and 2,320 trees. Thanks to this innovative project, Rivas Vaciamadrid became a national benchmark as a Smart City.
With this track record, Edison Next has consolidated itself as a key energy partner for the Rivas Vaciamadrid City Council, accompanying it on its path towards sustainability and energy efficiency. The award of the new photovoltaic project is another step in this collaboration, reaffirming the municipality’s commitment to a greener and more sustainable future.
