Edison Next and the Rivas Vaciamadrid City Council promote sustainability in schools through the 50/50 project.
At Edison Next, we are committed to developing initiatives that promote sustainability and energy efficiency in collaboration with local communities. In this context, we are proud to actively participate in the 50/50 project of the Rivas Vaciamadrid City Council, an ambitious initiative that seeks to transform energy management in the municipality’s public schools.
The 50/50 program, with years of experience in other countries and proven effectiveness, involves the entire school community in implementing measures to reduce energy and water consumption. Through the formation of work teams and the adoption of new habits, it has not only significantly reduced environmental impact but also educated in sustainability values from an early age.
Since the start of the project, we have worked closely with the City Council and educational centers to implement innovative building management (BMS) and self-consumption solutions that complement the actions and habits adopted by the schools.
One of the most recent projects has been the installation of photovoltaic systems in various municipal buildings, including the La Rayuela Children’s Center, the Colegio las Cigüeñas, the Colegio Dulce Chacón, and the La Casa Más Grande Youth Center. These installations are not only generating clean energy from the sun but are also contributing to energy and economic savings, as well as reducing CO2 emissions, thus supporting the municipality’s sustainability goals.
In the last evaluated period, from September 2023 to February 2024, the results of the 50/50 project have been impressive. Thanks to the implemented measures, 166.7 tons of CO2 emissions have been avoided, a positive impact equivalent to planting 2,223 trees. This achievement underscores the commitment of the school community and the Rivas Vaciamadrid City Council to sustainability and the fight against climate change.
In addition to the environmental benefits, thanks to improved energy efficiency and self-consumption, the initiative has generated significant economic savings that citizens are directly benefiting from. During this period, 163,429 euros were saved on electricity, 106,822 euros on gas, and 53,456 euros on water. These net savings, which take into account the initial investment, translate into economic benefits of 13,041 euros on electricity, 42,541 euros on gas, and 3,822 euros on water in just 6 months. The results demonstrate that energy efficiency initiatives are not only beneficial for the environment but are also economically viable and profitable.
At Edison Next, we are committed to initiatives like this, which not only optimize energy and economic efficiency but also positively contribute to the environment and the local community. From Edison Next, we will continue to collaborate with the Rivas Vaciamadrid City Council on future initiatives that strengthen these fundamental values.
