Madrid promotes sustainability in the Moncloa-Aravaca district with the renovation of public lighting.
The Valdemarín neighborhood, in the Moncloa-Aravaca district, is heading towards a new era of sustainability and energy efficiency thanks to the renovation of its public lighting system.
This ambitious project has been awarded by the Madrid City Council to the joint venture formed by Edison Next Spain, together with Sociedad Ibérica de Construcciones Eléctricas, Imesapi, Etralux and Urbalux. With a six-month execution period, the initiative is part of the set of actions implemented by the capital to improve its energy infrastructure, betting on more efficient and environmentally friendly technologies.
In a context where sustainability has become a priority for large cities, the transformation of traditional lighting systems to LED luminaires in Valdemarín represents a decisive step forward. This type of technology not only offers energy savings of up to 60%, but also drastically reduces maintenance costs thanks to its long lifespan, which can reach up to 50,000 hours. Compared to conventional lighting systems, which require more frequent maintenance, LED lights offer greater reliability, ensuring more consistent performance over time.
Furthermore, in the case of Valdemarín, the new LED lighting system will be equipped with technologies that allow daily programming of on and off times, as well as regulation of the light flow according to the time of day. During the early hours of the night, when there is more pedestrian and vehicle traffic, the light intensity will be increased; while during hours of lower activity, the light flow will be reduced, allowing for lower energy consumption. This adjustment cycle is fixed and repeats each day, contributing to greater efficiency without compromising street safety.
Madrid is betting on leading a new era of smarter and more sustainable cities through projects like this one, which position the capital as a benchmark in the implementation of new technological solutions. In fact, the replacement of public lighting with LED luminaires is just one of the many measures the city is adopting within the Energy, Climate and Air Strategy of the Community of Madrid 2023-2030, which is aligned with the objectives of the European Green Deal and the National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan (PNIEC). Reducing the carbon footprint has become a priority for the Madrid City Council, which seeks to guarantee urban resilience in the face of the challenges of climate change and promote a more efficient city model.
In this ambitious project, the participation of Edison Next stands out for its comprehensive approach to managing energy solutions. Bringing its extensive experience in large-scale projects, Edison Next will not only facilitate the installation of the latest generation LED luminaires, but will also ensure continuous optimization of energy use through monitoring and control systems. These systems allow real-time consumption management, automatically adjusting operational variables to maximize energy efficiency.
The collaboration of companies like Edison Next with local administrations represents a key alliance for the future of cities and support for the transformation towards new urban models. The project in Valdemarín will be a replicable model for other districts of Madrid that will show the results of the joint work of the public administration and leading companies in the energy sector.
