Innovation and sustainability at the core of our participation in Matelec 2024

This week, we participated in Matelec 2024, the International Exhibition of Solutions for the Electrical and Electronics Industry, held from November 5 to 8 at IFEMA Madrid. This event is much more than a trade fair; it is a forum for exchanging ideas and technological advances that connects industry leaders with the most innovative solutions in energy efficiency and sustainability. With over 90,000 professional visitors and representatives from 100 countries, Matelec has become an essential event for those of us working towards a greener and more digitalized industry. Representing Edison Next, our Head of CAEs and e-Mobility, Giulia Realmonte, participated in the roundtable discussion “CAE System: The Challenges of a Key Energy Efficiency Mechanism.” This session provided a comprehensive overview of the current state and latest developments of the Energy Savings Certificates (CAEs) system in Spain. Giulia highlighted several advantages of this new system compared to traditional subsidies, including the agility of management between private entities and the direct economic benefits it provides to companies. During her speech, Giulia also addressed how, despite being a new mechanism with much still to learn, CAEs have already demonstrated their positive impact on the profitability of energy efficiency projects across various sectors, especially in the tertiary and industrial sectors. Furthermore, in cases where Edison Next leads the project, we pass the economic benefit directly to the end customer, achieving a considerable reduction in investment payback periods. There are numerous success stories where we have already applied this methodology, such as decarbonization initiatives for heating and cooling generation systems in hotels, implementation projects for Building Management Systems (BMS) in hospitals, which have reduced CAPEX by 60%, and industrial projects for heat recovery and production system changes. For Edison Next, CAEs represent a fundamental piece in our mission to help companies reduce their carbon footprint while optimizing their profitability. This system is enabling companies’ efforts and energy savings to translate into concrete economic benefits, incentivizing companies to adopt more sustainable practices and, ultimately, contributing to a future with lower environmental impact. Our goal is to promote and strengthen the use of CAEs as a mechanism that not only benefits companies individually but also drives an energy transformation at the national level. Participating in events like Matelec is essential for us, as they are not only a place to communicate our vision and experience but also provide an invaluable space to share knowledge and learn from other industry leaders. These types of interactions allow us to stay at the forefront of trends in the various sectors in which we operate and give us the opportunity to directly understand the changing needs of the market. Thanks to them, we manage to stay one step ahead when adapting our services to offer solutions that truly respond to current and future challenges. At Matelec, we once again experienced the value of partnerships and the importance of working together towards shared goals. Every interaction, every debate, and every new idea reminds us that the energy transformation requires collective effort, long-term vision, and a constant commitment to innovation. For us, Matelec is a window to new opportunities to inspire and lead change, working hand in hand with other players to build a more resilient, responsible, and future-ready industry. As we look ahead, we reaffirm our commitment to our customers and the environment. We will continue working on solutions that promote more efficient energy use and drive sustainability. At Edison Next, we are convinced that the energy transition is possible, and we are proud to be part of this change in such a relevant setting as Matelec.
