Edison Next completes the first phase of the solar project at Alstom’s industrial center in Barcelona.
The global leader in sustainable mobility solutions, Alstom, has taken a significant step in its commitment to sustainability by successfully completing the first phase of the photovoltaic solar energy project at its industrial center in Santa Perpètua, Barcelona.
This project, carried out in close collaboration with Edison Next, the energy solutions expert and subsidiary of the EDISON group and the French giant EDF, will improve the competitiveness and sustainability of the sustainable mobility company by generating clean energy that covers 26.5% of the factory’s total consumption.
Once both phases of the project are completed, the Santa Perpètua factory will have a total of 3,596 photovoltaic panels distributed on the roofs of workshops, office buildings, and the main parking lot of the industrial center. This infrastructure will occupy more than 9,000 square meters, equivalent to two football fields. In the first phase of the project, which has covered more than half of the final initiative, 2,419 panels have been installed, while the second phase, to be completed by the end of June, will add solar panels in a second parking area that is currently being roofed.
With an installed peak power of 2,041 kWp, these solar panels will generate 2,776 MWh of clean energy annually, contributing to the modernization of the industrial complex and reducing its environmental impact. Thanks to the high generation capacity and the clean energy produced, companies will avoid the emission of 694 tons of CO2 per year, equivalent to the emissions generated by 162 gasoline cars over a year.
The installation of these solar panels represents a major commitment by Alstom to meet its sustainability goals and its commitment to being an active part of the fight against climate change. Furthermore, this project is part of the company’s strategy to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels, expanding the importance and role of renewable energies in its operations.
However, the project will not only benefit Alstom but will also have a positive impact on the local community and the surrounding environment. Additionally, the center has taken an innovative step in offsetting its carbon footprint. Through a project registered with the Ministry for Ecological Transition, Alstom has planted more than 1,000
trees, being the first factory in the railway sector to register its CO2 emissions and develop a project to absorb and offset these emissions.
Currently, like the rest of Alstom Spain’s centers, Santa Perpètua exclusively uses electrical energy from renewable sources and has been implementing an energy efficiency plan for several years to reduce electricity consumption. However, the company’s new commitment focuses on generating that energy themselves, which they will achieve thanks to the work of Edison Next Spain.
The photovoltaic solar energy project in Santa Perpètua is the result of successful collaboration with Edison Next Spain, a benchmark in innovative energy solutions. Edison Next Spain has played a key role in implementing this solution, providing its expertise in renewable energy and energy efficiency.
Through their collaboration, Edison Next Spain and Alstom are demonstrating how industrial activity and its centers can promote the creation of a cleaner and healthier environment by generating a positive impact on the local community through the use of clean energy and the reduction of the carbon footprint.
