Edison Next activates preventive measures against extreme heat to protect its teams.
At Edison Next, we believe that sustainability begins with taking care of what matters most: people. That is why, with the arrival of high temperatures, we have decided to activate concrete measures to protect the health and well-being of our teams, especially those who carry out their daily activities outdoors.
These actions are part of our ESG commitment, which is reflected not only in the energy projects we promote, but also in how we work and how we ensure the safety of those who are part of the company.
During these past few days, marked by an intense heat wave, we have decided to reinforce our internal campaign to remind our colleagues of the importance of prevention. We have reminded them of the importance of avoiding tasks that require greater physical effort or direct exposure to the sun during the central hours of the day and of staying hydrated, in addition to promoting the regular use of sunscreen and UV-filter glasses.
Furthermore, with the aim of maximally protecting the health of our workers most exposed to heat, we have distributed smart thermal monitoring bracelets to our maintenance, construction, and outdoor energy services personnel. This device, which the People and Talent area of Edison Next Spain promoted and implemented two summers ago, provides us with a constant reading of accumulated body temperature and issues both an audible and visual alert if it detects a risk of heat stroke.
In all our centers, managers and prevention technicians consult daily the alert levels issued by AEMET to adapt preventive measures according to weather conditions. Additionally, we have sent our teams instructions on how to detect heat stroke and how to act upon the first symptoms, reminding them that if in doubt, they should contact their direct supervisor and the prevention technicians assigned to each area.
We know that to achieve our goal of “zero accidents,” we need constant vigilance and a culture of care shared by everyone. That is why, in our company, we have been promoting and working for years towards a work environment that protects the well-being of our employees and promotes their safety at all times, especially during times of the year like the present, where climate change and extreme temperatures increase the danger.
Sustainability, for us, is not limited to reducing emissions or increasing energy efficiency; it is also about caring, preventing, and supporting. In our company, we will continue working so that every step we take towards a more sustainable model is also a step towards a safer, more humane work environment committed to the well-being of those who make it possible.
