Edison Next’s artificial intelligence already analyzes 1.5 million data points daily to anticipate failures.

In today’s fast-paced world, there is something we value more and more: that things work. That the HVAC system doesn’t fail when it’s needed most. That a solar plant performs at its peak in the middle of summer. That an industrial motor doesn’t stop unexpectedly. At Edison Next Spain, we have been working for years to make this happen. And we do it with data, with artificial intelligence, and with one idea always in mind: “anticipating is always better than reacting.”  According to data from the International Energy Agency (IEA), energy systems and industrial infrastructures face increasing pressure from demand, climate variability, and the need to reduce emissions. At the same time, undetected failures or inefficiencies can account for up to 20% loss in productivity and 30% more energy consumption. Advanced digitalization and predictive maintenance have become essential tools for ensuring safe, sustainable, and efficient operations.  That is why we developed Iris, our intelligent fault detection and diagnosis service. Today, this solution already processes more than 1.5 million values per day, collected from 260,000 sensors and actuators spread across more than 1,460 facilities throughout Spain. From hospitals and shopping centers to industries and photovoltaic parks. Behind each figure there is a story, a failure avoided, a technician who didn’t have to intervene, an operation that didn’t stop.  This tool is capable, with more than 300 artificial intelligence models working in parallel, of learning the normal behavior of each piece of equipment, recognizing patterns, and issuing alerts as soon as it detects something out of the ordinary. It analyzes more than 16 million samples daily, in real time. Not just to observe, but to act. To turn data into decisions and foresight into value—this is what we call digital efficiency. And we apply it to HVAC, pumping systems, solar inverters, and any critical infrastructure requiring continuous availability.  Thanks to Iris, we not only detect faults before they occur, but we also help prioritize them, make more agile decisions, and plan maintenance more intelligently. And that, in the end, translates into lower costs, fewer surprises, and much more efficient energy use, because when assets work well, the entire system benefits.  At Edison Next Spain, we have never understood digitalization as a trend, but rather as a tool with purpose. Iris is an example of how we apply technology to improve the lifespan of facilities, reduce unnecessary consumption, and move towards a more resilient, competitive, and sustainable energy model. From our point of view, artificial intelligence, properly understood, is one that helps people, cares for resources, and acts precisely when it needs to.
