Edison Next Spain wins the renovation of Seville’s public lighting with a €17.8 million contract.

The Seville City Council has awarded Edison Next Spain, an energy services company and subsidiary of the EDISON energy group and the French giant EDF, a contract for the renovation and improvement of public lighting installations in the southern area of the city with an investment of 17,797,208 euros. This contract is part of a broader initiative, with a total budget exceeding 28 million euros, aimed at modernizing and ensuring the continuity of the public lighting service under optimal conditions of efficiency and safety. Divided into two lots covering the Northern Zone and the Southern Zone of Seville, the initiative aims to guarantee the continuity of the city’s public lighting service under optimal conditions of efficiency and safety, ensuring quality lighting on the streets of the Andalusian capital. Edison Next has been selected to lead the lighting transformation in the Southern Zone, which includes 39,429 lighting points and 726 control centers. Currently, Seville’s public lighting has a total of 75,377 lighting points distributed across 1,479 control centers. Although 46% of these luminaires still use High-Pressure Sodium Vapor (HPSV) lamps, and 1.1% rely on Halides, 52% have already been renovated with LED technology, reflecting the city’s commitment to modernizing its infrastructure. The new contract includes continuing the renovation of the remaining luminaires to LED technology, as well as the remodeling of lighting in unique locations of the city with special attention to both aesthetics and energy efficiency. All these works in the southern area will represent a significant advance in reducing energy consumption, as well as a notable improvement in lighting quality, resulting in greater safety for citizens and a lower environmental impact, key factors in Seville’s urban development strategy. Edison Next will not only handle the technological renovation but will also carry out a set of tasks ranging from maintenance and repair of faults to the implementation of new improvements. The project will also include the incorporation of advanced remote management technologies, such as control center remote management systems or point-to-point remote management. The use of remote management in this project is one of the most notable aspects, as, thanks to the implementation of these systems, energy consumption can be monitored and adjusted more precisely, ensuring that the city not only saves on its energy bill but also reduces its carbon footprint. At the same time, this remote control capability will allow for a quick and efficient response to potential failures, improving the reliability of the lighting service. This project reaffirms Edison Next’s commitment to innovation and sustainability in the energy sector. The company, recognized for its experience in managing large-scale projects, will bring its vast expertise in implementing smart energy solutions. The collaboration between the Seville City Council and Edison Next marks a milestone in the transition towards a smarter and more efficient city model, where technology is placed at the service of citizens to improve their quality of life. This contract, spanning several years, is already shaping up as a benchmark in the renovation of public lighting at the national level, demonstrating that technological modernization is both possible and profitable, and that its benefits directly impact the quality of life of citizens and the sustainability of the environment.
