The Alcazaba of Vélez-Málaga improves and modernizes its lighting thanks to Edison Next’s LED technology.

At Edison Next, we continue to advance on the path of leading the energy transition and, with it, bringing energy efficiency and sustainability to all Spanish towns and municipalities. In this context, from Edison Next we have led the project to modernize the lighting of the Alcazaba of Vélez-Málaga, in close collaboration with the City Council and other local authorities. The completion of the first phase of replacing the monumental lighting of the Alcazaba marks an important milestone in our work to promote urban sustainability and efficient energy development in cities. Especially after the increase in our strategic commitment to improving the energy efficiency of cultural sites and monuments, as these are among the public sectors with the greatest environmental impact. With a budget of €31,228, co-financed by the Vélez-Málaga City Council and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), we have carried out the replacement of the fortress’s old lighting system with an efficient LED technology one, which will entail a significant reduction in energy consumption and a significant advance in terms of safety and lighting quality. This change will not only provide more powerful and durable lighting, but will also represent significant energy and economic savings for the citizens of Vélez-Málaga. Furthermore, thanks to the project, a reduction in CO2 emissions will be achieved, contributing to the protection of the local environment and the fight against climate change. The renovation of the lighting, in addition to highlighting the beauty and architectural details of the Alcazaba, will also turn it into a symbol of municipal commitment to technological innovation and environmental sustainability. This, in addition to benefiting residents and visitors, sets an important precedent for future initiatives to improve the energy efficiency of historical and cultural heritage in the region.
