The municipality of El Ejido entrusts Edison Next with the development of a photovoltaic project worth 90,000 euros.
Edison Next, an energy services company and subsidiary of the EDISON energy group and French giant EDF, has been the energy company selected by the Local Government Board of the El Ejido City Council in Almería to carry out a photovoltaic project with an investment of over €90,000.
This initiative is part of the “Sustainable and Integrated Urban Development Strategy of El Ejido ‘EJIDO SOSTENIBLE 2020’,” and is 80% co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund, within the framework of the 2014-2020 Pluriregional Operational Program of Spain.
Specifically, Edison Next will be responsible for the supply and commissioning of a photovoltaic installation on the roof of the municipal town hall for self-consumption and surplus compensation. Through this initiative, the El Ejido City Council aims to move towards the municipality’s energy independence and transform it into a smart and sustainable city through updates that promote efficiency and energy savings.
The solar panels and auxiliary components with advanced technology, which Edison Next will supply and install in a few weeks, will generate a total of 131,589 kWh of energy per year. Thanks to this sustainable and renewable energy, the municipality of El Ejido will avoid emitting more than 34 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere per year.
In the words of Jon Macías, Commercial and Marketing Director of Edison Next Spain, “this project represents an important step forward by the El Ejido City Council towards creating a more sustainable and technologically advanced environment for its residents. Initiatives like this demonstrate the growing commitment and responsibility of the public sector towards our planet and, above all, towards future generations. At Edison Next, we drive efficiency and energy optimization through comprehensive solutions and cutting-edge technologies, thus ensuring a more sustainable future for our urban environments.”
Edison Next’s proposal, which was chosen from among the 18 offers received, will allow the municipality to achieve considerable economic savings in the coming years and demonstrates, once again, the benefits that the company’s energy solutions bring to the public sector. Indeed, this new photovoltaic project adds to the various initiatives that the El Ejido City Council has been promoting in recent years with the aim of achieving sustainable and efficient development for the municipality.
