Energy Savings Certificates and Building Management Systems, a key alliance for energy efficiency

In this context, Energy Savings Certificates (CAEs) have emerged as an essential tool to drive energy efficiency and reward efforts in this direction. They are a key measure that allows companies to demonstrate and quantify their energy efficiency achievements. But how do Energy Savings Certificates relate to Building Management Systems (BMS)? Building Management Systems, known as BMS, are an essential part of achieving energy efficiency in building facilities. These systems enable the control and optimization of a wide variety of systems, such as lighting, HVAC, ventilation, security, among others; adapting the building’s consumption to real temperature and occupancy conditions. BMS can be classified based on the level of automation and optimization on a scale ranging from letter D (least efficient systems) to letter A (the most technologically advanced and achieving the greatest savings). Upgrading these BMS systems to efficiency level A enables the generation of CAE certificates. This alliance between CAEs and BMS helps drive energy efficiency, positively impacting the CAPEX and OPEX of projects, while also contributing to achieving the company’s sustainability goals by maximizing savings. According to estimates made among the range of clients we have at Edison Next Spain, incorporating Energy Savings Certificates into BMS projects could lead to approximately 25% savings on the investment, potentially reaching up to 50% in the most favorable cases.
