IAN Food Group approves a plan to reduce 90% of its emissions by 2050 with Edison Next.
Grupo IAN, a leader in canned vegetables and a pioneer in ambient ready meals, which owns the century-old brand Carretilla, has announced the launch of an ambitious comprehensive decarbonization project in partnership with Edison Next, an energy services company and subsidiary of the EDISON energy group and the French giant EDF.
Grupo IAN aims to reduce its emissions by 29% by 2027, 42% by 2030, and 90% by 2050, with the additional commitment of offsetting 10% to achieve carbon neutrality through this project, based on calculated carbon footprint data. This will encompass the pillars of efficiency, renewable energy, circular economy, and offsetting, with the goal of achieving significant reductions in carbon emissions and contributing to the continuous improvement of competitiveness.
Grupo IAN: long-term changes for emission reduction
A commitment agreement has been established between Grupo IAN and Edison Next to drive the implementation of crucial measures for emission reduction and energy optimization at its plants. Within this collaboration framework, a detailed evaluation of multiple strategic projects will be carried out, designed to improve energy efficiency, address specific technical aspects, and explore innovative technologies. Among the projects analyzed are those focused on reducing thermal consumption (such as changes in steam generation boilers; initiatives for reducing electrical energy like lighting, motor replacements, or variable speed drives in equipment; or projects centered on the circular economy through heat recovery, among others), taking into account the importance of digitalization through the implementation of monitoring systems at each plant. The goal is decarbonization through four key pathways: efficiency, renewable energy, circular economy, and offsetting.
With this decarbonization project, Grupo IAN continues its commitment to sustainability, aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals and the purpose of promoting a sustainable future. The collaboration between Grupo IAN and Edison Next represents a significant step toward sustainability and environmental responsibility in the corporate world, with the firm objective of promoting and reinforcing care for the natural environment within its commitment to the environment, as outlined in Grupo IAN’s Strategic Sustainability and CSR Plan 2022-2026.
In the words of José Manuel Campos, Industrial Director of Grupo IAN, “this alliance with Edison Next reflects our firm commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility. We believe that investing in decarbonization projects is not only essential for the future of the planet but also for the long-term success of our company.”
“At Edison Next, we believe in the power of innovation and sustainability to drive real change. Therefore, this comprehensive decarbonization project not only represents a significant step toward carbon neutrality but also demonstrates Grupo IAN’s commitment to leading the industry toward a more sustainable future,” explains Laura San Segundo, Decarbonization Product Sponsor & EMS Manager at Edison Next Spain.
“Our expertise in renewable energy and innovative energy solutions allows us to tackle this comprehensive decarbonization project, focusing not only on emission reduction but also on creating economically viable solutions that will boost Grupo IAN’s competitiveness in the market.“, concludes San Segundo.
