Edison Next Spain will renovate the exterior lighting of the Granada Penitentiary Center with European Union funds.

The General Secretariat of Penitentiary Institutions of the Ministry of the Interior, within the framework of the “Energy Transition Plan of the General State Administration”, has awarded Edison Next, an energy services company and subsidiary of the EDISON energy group and the French giant EDF, the renovation of the exterior lighting of the Granada Penitentiary Center. This initiative is part of the energy efficiency projects financed by the European Union through the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. After several months of administrative procedure, Edison Next Spain has been awarded the contract for a final amount of 145,118.74 euros, representing a 35% savings compared to the base tender budget of 223,458.35 euros. The project aims to replace the current installation with an LED solution, which will not only improve lighting levels but also achieve significant annual energy savings of over 58%. The modification of the exterior lighting reduces the energy consumed by the Penitentiary Center, which implies a considerable indirect decrease in carbon dioxide emissions into the environment, contributing to improved air quality, sustainability, and a better social image for the organization. Thus, an annual emissions reduction of 89.87 Tn CO2 is expected. “At Edison Next Spain, we are committed to carrying out this project efficiently and professionally, using cutting-edge LED technology to improve energy efficiency and lighting levels at the penitentiary center,” states José J. Roca Salinas of Edison Next Spain. “We are delighted to be able to contribute to the efforts of the General Secretariat of Penitentiary Institutions to make penitentiary centers more efficient and sustainable. The renovation of the exterior lighting is just the beginning of our commitment to energy efficiency in these spaces, and we look forward to working on future projects that drive a truly just energy transition,” notes the executive.    Currently, the exterior lighting of the Albolote penitentiary center is based on two lighting technologies, mainly high-pressure sodium vapor and quartz-iodine lamps, although LED luminaires have already been installed in the area between the walls. The General Secretariat of Penitentiary Institutions has stood out for being one of the first bodies to draft and implement an Energy Savings Plan and fight against climate change. This exterior lighting renovation project is part of the efforts to make penitentiary centers more efficient and sustainable. Furthermore, the administration plans to allocate considerable funds, both from the general budgets and from European funds, for future improvements in energy efficiency and environmental sustainability in penitentiary establishments. “At Edison Next Spain, we firmly believe in the importance of energy efficiency and in raising awareness about the importance of environmental sustainability. We are committed to collaborating closely with penitentiary institutions and continuing to develop innovative solutions that contribute to energy savings and the reduction of the carbon footprint,” concludes José Roca. With this project, Edison Next Spain continues on the path towards positioning itself as a specialist in the energy transition in Spain and reaffirms its goal of leading decarbonization through the implementation of innovative technologies, the active promotion of renewable energy sources, and the adoption of sustainable practices.
