Edison Next bets on efficient Christmas lighting in cities.
Imagining a Christmas without decorations and lights in homes, businesses, and cities themselves is practically impossible. And indeed, one of the most anticipated moments when the Christmas season arrives is the lighting of the city’s Christmas lights, which marks the beginning of the festivities. But is it possible to combine concepts of efficiency, savings, and sustainability with Christmas lighting?
When the Christmas season arrives, the energy consumption of cities skyrockets. For this reason, sustainability is becoming one of the top priorities in the Christmas lighting of many Spanish cities.
To this end, at Edison Next we are working with various cities across Spain to implement sustainability, efficiency, and energy savings in public Christmas lighting. Specifically, Edison Next is incorporating LED lights to offer greater durability and be more environmentally friendly.
Specifically, in Palma de Mallorca, where the Christmas lighting has already been turned on, Edison Next has handled the decoration of 1,019 trees with LED garlands, 2,063 LED balls and stars throughout the city. Additionally, there are 273 luminous arches, 1,030 banners on supports, 5 canopies in squares across the city, two 10-meter-tall trees, and one 25-meter-tall tree, which will help the city save energy while it dresses up for these special dates.
In Molins de Rei, the company is lighting up Christmas with an efficient LED bulb system. And in Terrassa, Edison Next has contributed to the installation of 900 LED bulb panels, 7 logos with the city’s name, and various fireplaces. All these efficient lighting fixtures will help the city save energy and control the power of each element and operating hours.
Likewise, in Sant Cugat, 396,718 bulbs have been used, distributed across 254 Christmas motifs, 280 trees, 6 3D figures, and the new illuminations for this season, which include a Christmas sky stretching from Av. Cerdanyola to the station at Plaça Lluis Millet. Also incorporated are 2 fir trees, realistic simulations, and other complementary elements in the markets and Plaça Barcelona. All of this will result in total savings of 159,690 kWh, which equates to 12 kg of CO2 compared to last year.
In the Port of Ibiza and Formentera, the Christmas decoration consists of 3D figures made with a BIOPRINT structure, a revolutionary biodegradable material of biological origin and GMO-free, made from sugarcane, which minimizes waste production, protects natural resources, and thus contributes to reducing environmental impact. Along these same lines, the commitment to efficient and sustainable Christmas decoration will extend to Santa Eulalia del Río.
Similarly, La Nucia has entrusted Edison Next with the implementation of nearly 45,000 lamps with consumption levels around 80,000 watts. Additionally, it is worth noting that 50% of the motifs used for the city’s decoration are made from recycled bottles.
A strong commitment to sustainability, efficiency, and energy savings that other cities such as Esplugues, Sant Boi, Begues, or Sant Josep will join, as they will light up their decorations in the coming days.
