Pascual trusts Edison Next to achieve its ambitious goal of zero emissions at its dairy plants by 2026.

Grupo Pascual, a Spanish food company in the mass consumption sector, has decided to launch its Decarbonization Strategy together with Edison Next, with the aim of making the Aranda de Duero industrial complex and the Gurb dairy plant pioneers in achieving the Net Zero target by 2026. That is, reducing greenhouse gas emissions to as close to zero as possible. Through this major commitment, Edison Next will undertake an investment of 20 million, which will allow us to launch various energy efficiency, circular economy, and renewable energy projects. These include solutions for reducing thermal, electrical, and water consumption, as well as renewable technologies such as photovoltaic self-consumption, biomethane, or biomass. Furthermore, this project includes the revaluation of organic waste and a pioneering application of the circular economy, converting wastewater treatment plants into a biofactory for the recovery and use of biologically sourced CO2. In this way, the integration of the two wastewater treatment plants (WWTP) at the Aranda complex into a single, more efficient one is proposed. It will be equipped with the best technologies available on the market, allowing for increased biogas production, which, through an “upgrading” facility, will produce biomethane for injection into the grid, and bioCO2 to reduce the consumption of fossil-based chemical products. On the other hand, we will also be the Delegated Entity that will assume the management of the Energy Savings Certificates (CAEs), which will allow Pascual to maximize this recently approved incentive mechanism, substantially improving the attractiveness of the proposed projects. Both companies have been collaborating since 2014, with a shared commitment to advancing towards sustainability and energy efficiency, demonstrating a firm responsibility for environmental protection. Thanks to this collaboration, Pascual has achieved all the environmental goals it has set. Furthermore, it has achieved great successes thanks to Edison Next’s work at the Aranda de Duero and Gurb plants to date, including savings of six million in costs, a 30% reduction in energy consumption, and a decrease of 24,000 tons of CO2 emissions. At Edison Next, we have been playing a fundamental role in Pascual’s decarbonization journey for years. Now, both companies have decided to culminate this collaboration by making Pascual’s plants NET ZERO, a project through which Pascual will undoubtedly lead the dairy sector’s race towards decarbonization. This ambitious project is a clear example of the trust and recognition that we at Edison Next Spain have achieved in the private sector and an example of the benefits that companies obtain from collaborating with Edison Next. Technological innovation, research, and development are the strategic pillars of our company, which have allowed and continue to allow us to successfully and decisively address the challenges we face.
