Edison Next Spain, a key voice in the third edition of the “Expansión Energía 2025 Meeting”
The energy sector is undergoing an unprecedented transformation, driven by geopolitical factors, the ecological transition, and the accelerated development of new technologies. In this context, this Thursday, the third edition of the Expansión Energía 2025 Meeting was held at the Hotel Eurostars Madrid Tower, under the motto “Towards a new energy era.” This benchmark event, for the first time, comprehensively addressed all areas of the sector: electricity, gas, hydrocarbons, renewables, and even the emerging hydrogen market.
The event began with a welcome from Ana I. Pereda, director of Expansión, who then introduced the five roundtables where the most important figures in Spain’s energy world debated the major challenges and opportunities posed by this energy revolution. Edison Next was present at the event as one of the main sponsors, and our CEO, Iñigo Bertrand, participated in the “Renewables” roundtable, one of the key panels on the agenda, dedicated to analyzing the present and future of renewable energies.
Alongside Bertrand, prominent representatives of the sector shared the table, such as Venancio Rodríguez, Head of Regulation in Generation at ENDESA, and Guillermo Negro, General Director of Magnon Green Energy. During his speech, the CEO of Edison Next wanted to focus on the enormous potential that Spain has in the development of renewable energies, especially in the field of biomethane.
“In Spain, the potential of biomethane is enormous. We have land, we have available waste with a very powerful agri-food sector (which is one of our main export sources), and it turns out we don’t even have ten operational plants, when in France there are 500, and in countries like Italy and Germany there are hundreds,” Bertrand pointed out.
His speech also served to highlight the lack of dynamism in the administrative processing of this type of project, which is limiting the deployment of a key technology for the decarbonization of industry and the efficient use of waste.
“At Edison Next, we are no longer even asking for regulation with incentives to favor this type of investment because they are not needed; what we are asking for, because it is necessary, is greater clarity in the processing of permits,” he explained.
In this regard, Bertrand emphasized the need for more fluid collaboration between the private sector and administrations. “The education and pressure that must be applied to the public sector regarding processing has to change, because in our country there is investment willingness, there is knowledge, there is talent, and there are companies eager to carry out projects, but in many technologies we are being left out because the pace of the administrations slows us down.”
At Edison Next, this vision translates into a firm increase in the commitment to sustainable, innovative energy solutions adapted to each client’s reality. Our company, which has already demonstrated its leadership capacity in decarbonization projects with large industrial groups, the public sector, and the tertiary sector, also seeks to be an active voice in the main forums that set the sector’s agenda.
Participation in the Expansión Energía 2025 Meeting reinforces Edison Next’s commitment to a fair, efficient, and realistic energy transition. At Edison Next, we continue working on our effort to publicize the advantages of betting on renewable energies, which, in addition to being an environmental necessity, is a great strategic opportunity to improve the competitiveness of the Spanish productive fabric.
At Edison Next, we will continue to drive this vision in collaboration with all agents of the energy ecosystem, with the aim of accelerating the transformation towards a cleaner, more digitalized, and resilient model.
