Edison Next Spain visits the leading facilities of Edison Next in Piedmont, Italy.

Last November, Iñigo Bertrand (CEO), Alejandro Ramírez (PV Delivery Manager), and José Ignacio Cienfuegos (Engineering & Construction Manager) visited the cutting-edge facilities of Edison Next in Piedmont: the IVECO factory (in Stura) and the District Heating plant (Busca), with the aim of gaining in-depth knowledge of the solutions implemented, with a view to transferring them to our clients in Spain. The IVECO factory, located in Stura, employs nearly 6,000 workers in total. Thanks to our colleagues from the Operational Business Unit, our team had the opportunity to learn about its structure, the investments made in the facilities, as well as the most representative projects carried out in the field of Safety in recent years. They also had the chance to visit the facilities they manage: the compressed air station, which features both centrifugal and screw equipment cooled by evaporative units; the thermal power plant, consisting of high-pressure water-tube boilers, a steam turbine, and superheated water distribution (mainly for HVAC); and the wastewater treatment plant (WWTP). On the second day, the team visited the industrial District Heating plant, located in Busca, which is based on a forest biomass boiler that supplies both electrical energy for sale to the grid and thermal energy to residential communities in the form of hot water. During the visit, they were able to see the main equipment that makes up the plant: the storage yard, the buried silo, and the biomass drying station (from which they supply other group plants that require drier biomass than what is received); the biomass boiler (Uniconfort, 6MWt) for heating thermal oil, with flue gas treatment via a bag filter; the Organic Rankine Cycle – ORC (Turboden, 1MWe), for producing electrical energy from the heat supplied by the thermal oil; and the process of recovering residual heat from the thermal oil for heating water for District Heating (2-3MWt). “It is worth noting that this plant, 11 years after its start-up, is in impeccable maintenance condition and with performance levels in line with those projected,” highlighted José Ignacio Cienfuegos after the visit.
