Pascual launches a photovoltaic self-consumption plant with over 3,000 solar panels on the roof of its factory in Gurb (Barcelona).

EDF Fenice has completed the installation of the solar project, which has an installed capacity of 1,409.59 kWp Pascual has entrusted EDF Fenice, a specialist in energy efficiency and photovoltaic self-consumption solutions in the industrial sector, with the installation and commissioning of its photovoltaic self-consumption plant, located at the company’s factory in the town of Gurb (Barcelona). The dairy company’s solar self-consumption installation features more than 3,000 photovoltaic panels on the roof, each with a power output of 455 Wp, totaling an installed capacity of 1,409.59 kWp. The installation, which was approved in 2021 and is now operational, features the most advanced technology, both in terms of solar panels and auxiliary components, as well as a monitoring system for the energy generated and self-consumed. As a result, an annual solar production of 1,872 MWh is estimated, which will allow for the direct self-consumption of all that energy, equivalent to 598 tCO2 of emissions avoided into the atmosphere and 1,914 trees planted per year. These estimates can be improved by adapting Pascual’s plant consumption to solar hours. “This photovoltaic project represents the ratification of Pascual’s commitment to decarbonize its activities. Therefore, for EDF Fenice, it is a source of pride to continue accompanying, once again, the company on its journey towards climate neutrality, to become an increasingly green and sustainable company,” explains Íñigo Bertrand, CEO of EDF Fenice. A commitment to photovoltaic self-consumption that has been developed through the “no surplus discharge” self-consumption model, incorporating an intelligent anti-discharge device that instantly regulates the power generated by the solar panels between the two connection points and the power consumed by the entire plant, with the aim of not injecting energy into the grid. “With the commissioning of this large-scale energy project, not only due to its dimensions but also due to the cutting-edge technology used, we reaffirm our commitment to sustainability and the use of green energy as a fundamental pillar for the future of the company,” explains Roberto Zapata, Director of Operations at Pascual. With this project, Pascual, as a leader in the preparation and packaging of milk and other derived products, adds 27 energy initiatives alongside EDF Fenice since 2015, reaffirming its commitment to sustainable development goals and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. A whole series of energy projects that endorse Pascual’s commitment to sustainability and new renewable energy sources, and which are framed within an ambitious strategic decarbonization plan with which the company has set the goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2030.
